Hello,
I am a first time elektron user, my Rytm MK2 arrived today. I wanted to start a thread on the list of things that we should check when getting a brand new rytm mk2. We typically have 30 days to test it out before returns are no longer accepted. What kinds of things are known to be problematic? What should we make sure works correctly?
Thank you in advance!

Hi! First, press and hold function button when power up your rytm and enter test mode.
Check all buttons, encoders, pads. Common issues are:
Hello for some days now my analog rytm mk2 has been having some problems with the pads while being on MUTE mode. Every time i touch pad 6 or 7, pad 10 mutes and unmutes along with them without being touched. (the same is happening sometimes with pad 7) even sometimes i press the pads to mute/unmute them and they are unresponsive. I’ve read in another post ( Rytm MK2 select track bug or hardware issue? ) that it may have something to do with the pads circuitry, but i have this problem only while…
So i just recieved a Rytm MK2 from Thomann and turning it on the first time it did welcome me with this error message: MISSING CAL: PADS. I can click it away with YES or NO and use the machine but some features regarding the pads are not working. I can play via the Pads but can´t select tracks (TRK + PAD) or mute Tracks with (MUTE + PAD). Track selection works with the buttons btw.
I tried a factory reset and updating to 1.40C
In test mode it recoginzes the pads as PAD but doesn´t differentiat…
Why is this happening guys? Its so frustrating scrolling thru the samples on my RYTM Mk2. This wasnt an issue when i first got it a few months ago but now browsing thru samples is really slow. The whole machine gets slow when browsing thru samples…even just start and stop. It kinda stalls for a few seconds.
Edit: i have noticed now that if you leave RYTM idle in the sample browser for a minute or so, sample browsing becomes smooth again. Could it be that RYTM needs time to read all the samples …
@AsdfAsdf If it’s not too much of a hassle, I suggest you do return it. The more Elektron have access to units that have the problem that they can put on their test bench, the better.
Following the thread over the years, it looks like the kind of problem that might emerge under a combination of factors (including, potentially, intermittent breaching of tolerances in the manufacturing process - e.g. automated soldering issues). That’s going to be very tough to track down via just online bug rep…
If you don’t have any of these problems, you are fine! Good luck and best wishes for your purchase!

Thanks man! i just ran the test. Is it normal for keys 1 to show an all white screen and key 2 to show an all black screen? however when holding one down, while pressing the other, only this it show “trig pressed” on the screen? the rest of the keys show it what seems to be normal though.

Go to mutes and press all pads off and on. My unit had an issue where pad 8 would trigger pad 7 as well. Press down hard-ish.
Perfect support by elektron on this, quick, professional and great service. <3
Edit: Also, you’re in for a treat, it’s quite a beastly machine!
When you order, make sure you tell the dealer that you want a factory sealed unit, otherwise you might get someone else’s returned unit.
It’s a sad state of affairs for a company when their current reputation causes people to start threads like this. I don’t blame the OP either.

It’s a happy state that there exists such an intuitive, tactile, responsive, creative, versatile drum machine.
1st: test how good samples sound through it.
2nd: explore dual vco.
3rd: add performance macros like nobody’s biz!
4th: fine, make sure your pads aren’t too finicky. The price we pay to have such responsiveness is what I say!
