INABCD Jacks sampling challenge :loopy:

Hi.

Little challenge with only jacks plugged in OT, up to 4. No samples
Real-time fx / sampling / resampling, live recording in OT.
“On the other end of the cable there is just your finger or whatever object you touch the jack to”.
No Audio Editor. Only incoming sound from jacks.
No post processing in DAW except normalize, end cut, fade out.
Midi loopback possible.

Who’s in ?

Example with kick from Input D, other sounds from Input C.

When kick arrives I’m touching input D. Resampling and playing MAIN pitched, hence feedback.

Last version with the cheapest high end 4 voices synth : The QuadJacks.

So all sounds come from the 4 jacks, each one is recorded in a different track with different settings. Real-time sampling with rec trigs. If I don’t touch them, the sound fades away. Noise gate for INPUTS ABCD.
I modify their sound with the crossfader, mainly filters, combfilters mix, LOFI…

Pattern 1 :
T1 Kick with Exp Lfo on Comb Filter Pitch, envelope filter with mid res.
T2-3-4 Other sounds with LOFI with different settings, hipass filter
T5 Recording Cue, played pitch +12
T6 Recording T5, played pitch +12
T7 Recording Main
T8 Recording Main

Stop T8 Rec, > Pattern 2

T1-2-3-4 REc / Play with Pitch shift 0, 3, 7, 10, Timestretch on.
Combfilters tuned accordingly.
T5 Recording CUE, Pitch Shift 12 (TS), Flanger, Delay,
T6 Recording T5, Pitch Shift 12 (TS), Dark Reverb
T7 still recording Main
T8 Playing Recording 8 from pattern 1

Stop T7 rec > Save and Assign to Static.

Normalize in daw.

Cool! I might try it, is arranger allowed?

You mean, on the other end of the cable there is just your finger or whatever object you touch the jack to? (But not inserted in a socket audio source)

Yep. Several patterns can be used for further use of resampled stuff.
Midi loopback possible.

Yep

No enthusiasm apparently…
I made the cheapest 4 voices synth of the world for that purpose :

So all sounds in that track are just from touchin objects to your little device? That’s awesome, great work man!
I’d be down to take on the challenge if I had an Octatrack

Actually it was simply touching 2 jacks. I’ll try to do better with my Quadjack.

Oh boy, this takes me back! I think I even still have a few recordings I made using this kind of approach, cutting and pasting buzzes and crackles into a rhythm, using tape decks and a BR8 8-track (zip discs, anyone?). Was it called ‘no input’? (I was never quite sure what that actually meant). Ground hum…:yum:.

What do you mean about the kick drum? Do you mean you made the kick sound by touching a cable end? Or did you ‘cheat’?:grin:

And sorry for my ignorance, but what do you mean by midi loopback? How would that work here?

Thanks, I like this challenge.

No cheat.
T1 recording Input D, rec trig
T1 playing recording 1, 1 trig per beat
An Exp Lfo on Rate set to One
Rate = 1, Pitch = + 12
Envelope filter high resonance with right decay.
Timestretch off.
Microtiming.

Midi loopback : plug a midi cable between out and in and control audio tracks with midi tracks. More lfos, Arp…
Not sure if I’ll use it this time.

Here is a record with my super QuadJacks :

All the sounds come from the 4 jacks, no samples.
Only touching jacks, moving crossfader.

2 patterns, first one for drum sounds 4 different sounds, 2nd for synth sounds, 4 notes.
