Octatrack Euro/Midi Sequencing Issue

Howdy,

I’ve been having some issues with my sequencing setup for a while and I can’t figure it out for the life of me. Really hoping someone here can help….

Here is my routing:

Octatrack midi out > qMI 2 midi in

qMI 2 clock a out > Varigate 8+ clock in

qMI 2 reset out > Varigate 8+ reset in

For some reason this set up isn’t working. All of the midi settings on the octatrack appear to be correct. The Varigate is getting the proper clock but the reset isn’t functioning making synching things up and timing very challenging. If I swap out the octatrack for a beatstep pro everything functions as it should. Before the octatrack I also had a digitakt; that had the same issue. Really hoping someone can help me!!

All of the midi settings on the octatrack appear to be correct.

Have you confirmed that you have activated TRANSPORT SEND in the OT’s PROJECT > MIDI > SYNC menu?

If so, what voltage appears at the qMI 2’s RESET output when you press the OT’s Stop and Play keys?

Note that Elektron instruments will continue sending MIDI clock when stopped (in accordance with the MIDI specification). This causes frustration for some users including those with the Vermona interfaces like you:

External Midi2CV-Device with Constant-Clock-Off-Feature

I have to send back my Vermona qMI 2 Midi2CV-Modul because it can´t handle Octatrack´s constant clock. There are some Modules available (Intellijel µMidi or Kilpatrick K1600) which can detect a Midi-Stop-Signal and stop the Clock-Outputs, but now I am searching for an external Midi2CV-Device with minimum 4 Midi to CV Channels to save some Rack-Space. I wrote an EMail to cv.ocd but I have no answer yet. Is there an external Midi2CV-Device which can handle a constant clock? Thanks in Advance.

Octatrack Midi Clock + Vermona QMI

hey all - using an octatrack + vermona QMI to sequence analog gear. working great, but having a slight problem that i can’t work out. i need the octatrack to have midi clock send enabled in order for the vermona’s divided clock outputs to run. this means the OT transmits clock continuously (unless it’s slaved to something else). is there any way to have it send clock only when it’s playing? or can anyone think of some other workaround? otherwise, i need to use up a channel on the QMI to clock a…

How do you make sure Voltage Block resets each time you hit play? I use Vermona qmi2 for midi to cv duties and can’t figure out how to use reset. I’m also using Varigate 4+

MIDI clock out sync

Hi, I use my OT with midi2cv interface and OT is sending constant clock after stopping sequence and I need to start the OT in an exact time to stay in sync sequencer with clock. Is there any other way how to start sequencer/restart clock?

Midi clock run/stop

I’m trying to clock a sequencer from the midi clock of the RYTM. It works, but it works ALL THE TIME. IE there’s no differentiation between the RYTM playing and not playing, the midi clock starts as soon as the machine is switched on, and never stops… Is there a way to make RYTM’s midi clock signal start and stop with the RYTM sequencer? While I’m asking, is there a way to send a reset at the same time as stop so the sequencer starts at 1 when the RYTM next starts?

(The Varigate 8+ has two reset modes from firmware 2.0 onwards, although the manual does not describe how each works, so it may be worth changing the Reset mode if all else fails.)

If it turns out to be the continuous midi clock, it’s easy to program the Retrokits RK002 cable to fix this. (I don’t know how many times I have recommended this inexpensive nifty little problem solver )
