I’ve been thinking about picking up both of their 500 series units (Stretch and Level-Or) in the not too distant future.
for some reason the images aren’t showing. Keep in my the 500 modules have no mix knob and would function more closely to the the og Level Loc. Only the rack has it.
Also, Soundtoys took the og and made limiting and distortion run completely independent of each other. The og Level Loc didn’t do that, so you’d have to purchase sep units which prob makes sense with the 500 series.
I’ll be getting a 2nd rack so I can run stereo distortion and limiting together instead of one or the other. However, if you run a lot of things mono, you can run the rack in cascade mode where it internally routes in series and have the distortion before limiting or vice versa (or just have them separate mono channels
).
I love my rack, it’s more precise/has better resolution during the rotation, so it retains the musicality of what it’s fed whereas the Devil Loc will start to smear as you increase distortion. Oh, also, my rack will run hot in a short time, so take that for what its worth if you go for 500 series
Got a very cheap novation remote 49 sl compact from ancient times. I really needed some keys, even though i don’t play them. In my head it just makes more sense coming up with progressions having a piano layout than with the push. So, searched for the cheapest fatar keybed with aftertouch and 40 euros later, i’ve got myself a shiny yellow keyed one. The price does not make me feel guilty at all for drilling in some small holes so i can hide it under the table with some pull out drawer thingies.
Todays new arrival. Pristine still has cover on the screen. This is my 7th and last one of these. I always missed it so after 10yrs I grabbed a new one in pristine condition for £800 ![]()
Intentions are to use it to the max along with Peak and friends ![]()
Best $10 gear purchase ever (actually more like $6.50 USD!).
Old Boss BX-600 mixer in pristine condition. Like out of a time capsule. I was GASing for a little Bastl Bestie mixer to add some grit to my Roland S-1, but this does exactly what I was hoping for. The Roland S-1, T-8, and DR202 all sound massive through it, just the analog vibe I was wanting. Great character mixer.
No headphone out, which is a bit of a bummer, but I run everything into my SP-404mkii anyway, so I can monitor there. With the yen in the toilet these days, I’m having to look for bargains. ![]()
Here’s a video of someone else rocking one.
Sweet.
Those Boss mixers are rad. I have the BX800.
I did a good amount of researching after you posted this thing! All the ones ive seen here in the US, are going for like $100, and look in bad shape!
Looks like you got a steal!! Couldn’t have gone to a better dude! Looking forward to hearing this thing in action more!
While it seems a lot more expensive to get new gear in Japan, deals like these make me jealous for the beautiful forgotten electronics that you can get in this type of condition. In fact, most the time i am looking for sps and stuff they are out in Japan!
I’m interested to hear what your 3x Syncussion setup sounds like.
Got any audio clips?
Speck Xtramix. Been looking for one of these for years, and now finally have it in my rack.
Will have to be saying an emotional goodbye to a number of other mixers in the process, but so far? Worth it.
Wow!!!
Choice rack there!
How do you like the system 1-M? I almost got one of those as my first synth back in the day.
Hugely underrated, IMHO. Its native engine packs all the punch of a JP-8080 into half the rack space. Then, of course, with the touch of the button if can transform itself into an SH-101 instead.
I do wish it were multitimbral. But at one time these were reliably going for under $300, used. At that price it’s a no brainer. And there’s a JV-2080 and EssenceFM hiding just out of frame — so as timbres go, I’m probably covered.
Just set up my new arrival (Virus Ti2) this morning to do some patch design using the the KSP Chroma. Can’t believe I never repurchased the Virus earlier. It’s been 10yrs since I sold my last Virus (big mistake) but anyways have a great day all I’m sure I will have plenty fun designing new sounds for this ![]()
Great… But why is the Virus TI so good? Never had one, but heard lots of people raving about it…
you can find lots of answers here. there are also sound examples posted
I want to get better at sound design so I picked up a Korg ARP 2600 M locally for $1k last week. Spent the weekend watching YouTube tutorials and patching and I’m already addicted. I can tell this is going to be a gateway drug into modular for me.
I own an Oberheim SEM Patch Panel version but it isn’t really self-contained for modular-style patching the way this is, I’m blown away by the power and flexibility. I can already see why the 2600 is considered one of the best synths ever made.
Sofia to go along with my new Monumatic. Think I’m done buying modules for awhile. I gotta buy food for the family…darn it!
Can make nice perc with that.
Got my recent purchases hooked up with Digitakt 2 today having so much fun trying different stuff out.
Digitakt 2 sequencing the Virus and Peak. Got Peak running through the Virus inputs, running Virus in multimode midi 9-15 Peak is on midi channel 16 and Digitakt 2 doing the drum samples. This is a cool little setup indeed. All 7 assigned parts of the Virus working perfect with no dropouts or voice stealing. Could be the perfect little Techno setup ![]()
Imo, it’s the most ‘complete’ synth with great internal routing flexibility
