OP-XY/Z User Thread

Hi,

I use the standard A16 iPad and it works pretty well with the op-xy. I have not run into CPU issues when running loads of AUvs (although I generally only use a small amount of apps at the same time, as a workflow preference with the op-xy).

There’s a thread here which is a treasure trove of information for iPad music apps, if you’ve not already seen it.

I have a refurb 11" iPad Air M3 that I picked up to do exactly this. It works incredibly well with AUM and the iOS audio app universe for all manner of good times, including iPad audio processing of the XY’s audio stream and controlling soft synths on the iPad from the XY’s sequencer. Sure, there are plenty of limitations, but the capabilities that exist using two battery powered devices connected with a single USB cable are amazing. I have a couple of AUM sessions running upwards of 30 plugins with no issues. I have had more fun with this combo, a USB interface, and a guitar, than I have had with a whole shed full of synthesizers and drum machines. And it’ll fit in a backpack for park jams.

As a tip, any recent iPad with a USB-C port should work fine. I’d avoid the older Lightning models.

The OP XY is such a joy to use. I’ve been sequencing my Toriaz AS-1 with it and it’s techno heaven.

I think the consensus on refurbed iPads is that you should atleast get the one with the M1 chip. It grants you you a lot more then the A16 chip.

I purchased an iPad Air with the m2 chip and it works great with logic and aum

I know it’s not the best idea to produce with in-ear monitors or earbuds, but I still want a decent pair for convenience, $100 USD. Looking at the Shure SE215, Sennheiser IE 200, and Mackie MP-120. Anyone familiar with these? Ideally: comfortable, flat response, and with a cable that doesnt get super tangled.

Since there will likely be discounts on the other three products in the “field” range… if you could only buy one to go with the OP-XY, which one would it be and why?

OP-Z query here: did anyone with a Line module manage to control the send level of each track by a midi CC, or is it only possible through shift+track+green dial?

I have the TX-6 with the OP-XY and it’s great. I basically use the 2 to make ad-hoc setups with my other gear, pairing them thoughtfully rather than having one giant static setup.

The extra effects can be useful as well.

this happened to anyone else? Been using it fine for months then this morning I turn it on and it doesn’t boot, eventually the boot screen appears with the options of firmware update, factory reset etc, but the track buttons are unresponsive so I can’t select anything.

Do you have a usb device connected? I’ve noticed that mine sometimes doesn’t want to boot when that is the case.

I don’t no :frowning:

Maybe a factory reset will solve the problem?

I would if I could, but the buttons are not responsive in the boot menu, have contacted TE support, will see what they say, just wondering if anyone else has encountered this

Thank you for all the kind replies, regarding my ipad questions! :sunglasses:

Does anyone know what the midi ‘timestamp’ setting does as opposed to clock? Wondering if op xy can output song position after all?

Continuing the discussion from Ch4tGPT / 4I slop: not here, please!:

I grabbed some cheap JBL usb c headphones, designed mostly for smartphones, etc, but they do work and sound great with the XY because it supports usb host. My question is, it’s there a way to control volume? Neither the headphones inline volume control or the volume pot on the XY do anything.
