OP-XY/Z User Thread

Yes, chat GPT help me. Free don’t reset to zero in new notes.

Thank you!

Is it possible to listen to a song not from the beginning?

I’ve seen different types of granular „circumstances“ on the XY but my personal favorite is by just setting the loop start/end points on loop and within the playing sample to a short distance from each other.

this creates all kinds of granular triggering, different notes will start and end with their respective Loop section, if you play a chord it will strum after reaching the loop start. (envelope sustain up)
the envelope setting drastically changes the granularity because that is affecting the looping section (which has its own fade control aswell)

the lfo can be used for movement and smooth parameter locks aswell to really scrub the audio over a period of time, this applies to the polyphony of grains while overlapping. can also be played in reverse

I think TE could just implement the individual play heads (visually) when using polyphony, you can hear it but visually it’s per step ^^

the op1 got that aswell but with a 6 note polyphony and no locks and such but it has been there all the time :women_with_bunny_ears:

Ok thanks not a big deal though

Yes you get onto your song page, hold shift, +- to cue up the scene you want to play the song from

Perfect! Thanks a lot, very useful

I want to try the new stem separation feature from Ableton last update on a opxy single stereo file and see if each stem is well captured. Anyone tried it out?

What’s the point of doing this?

The OP-XY only has stereo out. This would be a way to grab multitrack stems without all the hassle of recording the thing 8 times

Yes exactly. I am just wondering if the quality of individual stems would be fine

No… better to record separately. It will produce artifacts, and you will have just drums, bass, vocals and others. So just four tracks

Got the novation launch control xl3 today and works well with op xy, there is even two great preset templates for a mixer and track controls, a couple of adjustments to make them work properly but otherwise makes it quick and easy to get going.

Will keep an eye on battery drain and see how that goes

I thought it would be possible by now to create sub folders for sample categories in the user folder? I am on fw 1.1.0 and cant create sub folders on mac.

Edit: Ok seems like sub folders need to be created in the root directory. But still no deeper folder structure possible. That sucks :-/

Playing around with xl 3 and OP XY last night, great to have a lot of hands on control but really annoying that LCL doesn’t pick up the op xy midi value initially. You have to twist a knob and op xy jumps to zero.

Also if you have an LFO on filter cut off say, that doesn’t track with LCL. Basically OP XY doesn’t seem to be able to communicate midi back to LCL. Kind of kills the potential…

I find the OP-XY’s USB midi to be pretty flaky. Often I have to delete a device from the XY’s list to make it work again.

Midi over trs is pretty much perfect for me though.

Is there an easy way to load several samples on a track without navigating to the specific folders for every slot?

Are those samples in the same folder? And are we speaking about drum sampler? If so then just browse the desired sample by the first key and then copy-paste that key to the next one and start browsing from there.

Thanks for the tip! That’s a great workaround.

Hello,

I’m looking for some tips to find the best bang for the bucks ipad to pair with my XY.
I want to use it as an additional fx, some soft synths and as a midi controller, if possible, all with a single USB connection.
I’m an android guy and have absolute no clue in the mac world and the used market is flooded with different ipad devices…

Thank you
