Erica Synths SYNTRX

This.

Also applies to many other instruments. Digitone and TR8-S instantly spring to mind.

I must admit, when I saw that announcement, I deeply considered going for one. That’s a lot of dough, and I think my current setup is providing what I want for music making, so I shall not. It would be cool to play with one of these days, tho. However… The perkons speaks to me even more.

Erica Synths still have them for direct sale on their website and a little cheaper than they were on US dealer sites.

And Juno has a few of them left, and are even cheaper than from Erica Synths, but it is with UK power supply, so UK people might like that one. Or, if it is an off the shelf power supply, then it might be worth it if you can get one for your country. Or maybe you just need to switch the lead, I am not sure?

I’m in the same boat, I am intrigued by this one. But, I am much more intrigued by the Perkons.

Detroit Modular warned me that the Syntrx box includes the Syntrx and the power brick, but no mains cable. They said the mains cable would be somewhere between the inner box and the outer shipping carton. If that’s how all Syntrxes are packed (I don’t see why they would have different SKUs for such a limited run synth, but don’t know for sure) then it should be a simple matter of buying the Syntrx that is most easily available to you and then adding the correct local power cord to the universal power supply.

The manual indicates the following are included:

  • SYNTRX synthesizer
  • Universal 12VDC wall wart adapter
  • User manual
  • 10 patch note stencils

Well that’s good to know, it sounds like it is similar to Elektron devices, where you just need to switch the lead out then.

Well, probably because he is used to reviewing Behringer stuff, he should stick to that. I find his videos dull, boring waffle.

But like TBH most of the self proclaimed youtube synth experts - WTF qualifies them to do reviews anyway? Nothing, most of them only have very basic synthesis knowledge, and are just giving an unqualified surface scratcher opinion IMHO.

There are a few ok synth reviewers, but lots of crap ones, too many.

PREACH!

I was watching on the other day, the youtuber in question was about to show a little trick, which didnt actually work, so they claimed they were sure they had it working earlier. They had spent a lot of time playing with the this particular subtle paramter, they had learned it definitely did something, yet they couldnt explain what or why…

So… the youtuber in question had learned FA then… I stopped watching.

A synth review should show the details, pros and cons, etc of a synth. Not be a ‘look at me and all this cool stuff’ video.

100% agreed. a lot of this is why I place more weight into the Alex Ball review of the Syntrx.

I would say just be careful with the reverb feedback, the filter isnt actually that dangerous. I think you could start by putting the reverb on the output 1/2 with levels fully down and reverb mix and feedback all the way up then slowly turn up the volumes. This is basically as loud as the machine will get. Because of the inverse relationship between gain and resonance volume on the filter you don’t really need to worry about blowing out your ears there.

Very nice!

This is exactly why my cursor has been hovering over the buy button since the announcement. I’ve always been fascinated by the synthi way (nice way of putting it!), but it always has been unreachable obviously. Syntrx is really the only possibility of getting something so similar. (Unless B clones the synthi, but I just couldn’t get myself to buy that anyway). It kind of feels like this might be the only chance to get this type of instrument. Unless they’re working on an mkii but I find that highly unlikely.

Regarding shoe, not one to cririzine channels often, but just can’t get through any of his videos tbh…

edit: I pushed the button.

would be pretty cool if they did though. with a different flavor of modules but otherwise the same machine.

congrats! :raised_hands:

At least having the Matrix Mixer ( thread ) out of the SYNTRX still available ( they better not drop that ) makes doing your own rough version of something related conceptually to the SYNTRX possible. The whole SYNTRX is special, but the electronically patchable matrix is probably the most difficult part to replicate in modular.

Yeah I could see them parting out some of the other unique unique parts into eurorack also down the line and maybe selling it as a preset system VS the synthi type design. I did confirm with them that the filter is indeed a 3 pole diode design (like a synthi) but it has it’s own unique take on it. I would be curious to know more but sadly they left the details vague. I kind of expect we see this filter show up as a module at some point.

I think the filter doesn’t get enough praise. I love it so much.

I would too, if I could decide which of my Juno 106 or Rev2 would leave to fund one. And I can’t decide. :-/
