Digitone II Screen Issue

2 week old Digitone II here, was playing with the filter cutoff and the screen just started glitching out and now it looks like this (even after power cycling).

Oh No… here we go again.

What is the assembly plant of that one?

at what point does this become a worrying issue across years worth/multiple elektron devices ?

i appreciate theres bias if theyre reported on here… we might think its worse than it actually is… but there have been many.

AND.
if you find this issue all you can do is get it replaced … either by store or by contacting elektron… its been an issue on syntakt and digitakt 2 , maybe heat + FX? for a while.

It’s “Made in Poland” and the MFGDT is “2024-W08”.

I’m new in the Elektron world, is there more info that can be derived from the serial?

i think that means week 8 of 2024.
contact elektron for support.

Thanks, I contacted Elektron. The purchase is within the return window and I could get it replaced by the retailer but I’m afraid I’d just get another one from the same batch with a faulty screen.

Assembly location is irrelevant, the fact this is only the second DN2 issue I have seen reported shows that the supplier has indeed improved the screen reliability … improved doesn’t mean perfected reliability.

Ps the other one is mine, a pre release model

Elektron will be keen to learn about this, it’s just one of these things, they’ll sort you out or advise accordingly.

It happens, mine is still like this as I haven’t got around to getting it sorted, but at least we’re covered…

you can send it to elektron and they’ll replace the screen free of charge

depending on where you live, it might take a while though (i’m in the u.s.)

i had to send them my dn2 for another hardware defect and turnaround time was almost a month

it might be faster and make more sense to contact the retailer for a replacement unit

Had this issues with my DT2 it was back within a week from Sweden ( I live in Germany ) hopefully it will last now

That’s interesting, I’m in Southern California. Maybe going through the retailer is a better option.

my replacement had two other hardware issues (uneven stereo signal from the heaphone output and a very loose power supply input to the point where the unit powers off at the slightest movement) so make sure everything’s okay with yours once you get it

i purchased mine directly from elektron and don’t feel like waiting another month so am kind of just dealing with it :man_shrugging:

I’m second guessing now -

Send digitone to elektron - get new screen, but might take a month.

Get replacement from retailer in a few days - but screen might break again and could have other issues (uneven output, squeaky buttons, etc.)

:joy:

yeah tbh if nothing else is wrong with your dn2, this might actually be the best route

i used the time away from mine to really bond with my syntakt

hopefully your experience also turns out to be serendipitous!

slightly off-topic opinion

this can fairly be dismissed as speculation because i can’t articulate why in a specifically technical sense, but to me there’s a noticeable difference in build/screen quality between the older digi boxes and the newest generation of dn and dt

again, completely subjective, but my syntakt feels like a tank that will survive the apocalypse while my dn2 feels like it definitely has an expiration date

and so it begins.

Yes, maybe Overbridge will be ready when I get it back

All screen issues, no matter which l model, have come from Poland plant.

No screen issue in a made in Sweden device to date.

First DN 2 screen issue publicly reported.

I’ve been doing my research.

I’m with Avantronica – that’s kinda irrelevant and anecdotal. Assuming both have the same supplier, we don’t know if the Poland plant makes, say, 90% of the units and the Swedish one 10%. If the fail rate is 0.01% (I’m making this shit up, but you get me), it’s statistically harder to get one failed unit from there. This can be a bazzilion things and until Elektron says how things are, the only thing we know for sure is that they’re great at customer service.
