A second new machine? [Analog Rytm launch, January 2014]

Thx for the guess.

Was there any indication of when info of the new machine would be made available?

very very soon, whatever that means…

Elektron made aā€Waldorf concept". When Waldorf had made their ā€Pulse 2ā€ for Namm show 2012 then they only showed the design but didn’t let anyone hear the unit until 1 year later :joy:

mmm - in terms of the heat death of the universe, some-when in the next 1.000,000 or so years :sob:

I’m actually hoping in the next month but that would be a - what do call it? errr - a guess. A speculative and stoopid guess. Shit i hope i don’t blow a load of cash on something else in the next week cos i’m looking for a controller thing with drum pads :imp:

Is that an educated guess? How big was that gap in the conner of the frosted box?

if I had to bet on it I say a new drummachine I mean sfx6 upgraded to a4 keys
1+1=3 right ?

The left side of this new machine seems to be a colorfull 4x4 matrix. Green, blue, red, yellow, etc…
As ever said, there is clearly a 16 step sequencer.

I really hope it will be a controller, something close to QuNeo with 4x midi outs and glitchy/slicing/beat repeat capabilities through audio inputs.

a new semi-modular FM monster with patchable sequencer and individual 8 tracks length would be fine… Jon pls tell us more, at least when to aspect more news! :alien:

Why is there a chain on the plate ?

For dramatic effect.

Lugging around that box & chain is going to be impractical for portable live use.
Presumably some sort of wifi-midi will be required to communicate with the device inside the box.
Revolutionary concept though, having a giant pulsating cube as part of your rig. I wonder is the box surface touch sensitive…

The linking together of boxes.

Yep

So what about the sound from the box? Drums don’t immediately spring to mind, but I’m sure a flexible drum synth with an open-ish architecture could makes those sounds.

The new box blinks like a modular.

Exact! The time of freedom, creativity, small gears & laptops for live acts is now finished. A new era is coming! The era of slavery, heavy gears and hard constraints. The new Elektron world is announced: Blood Sweat & Pain for the masses! Happiness in slavery!

New box I’m all for waiting, especially if it means a new Hector campaign.

Perhaps Elektron, in response to the quotes out of Teenage engineering that they left Elektron because they wanted to make something new and interesting, something variable and open is possible.

I will also say that all this speculation is an expression of passion for the products- there is nothing wrong with saying:

ā€œI hope they release something like, Xā€
or
ā€œIt would make sense for their next product to be Y because their last product was Z and the two shouldn’t overlap or de-value each otherā€
or
ā€œI wish product Z was better and included features like this-ā€¦ā€"

It isn’t narcissistic to discuss these things, but it is narcissistic to think you’re justified ranting and raving an derailing a discussion with obsessive speculation and angry proclamations about the product and company. However, there is also no justification for claiming superior knowledge and then characterizing the people who are here sharing ideas and discussing something they are passionate about as foolish and naive. If the hardcore supporters of your company pretty unanimously want a product, why wouldn’t you consider reasonable ways to bring it to them while also fitting it into and distinguishing it from the others in the product line? Hundreds of people who will most certainly pay for and be thrilled about the end result could be a blank check for the company to at least sit down and have a discussion about it.

Companies operate at a human level as well as a bottom line capitalistic level. Product development doesn’t happen in a vaccum. There isn’t some brain in a jar somewhere in Sweden that prints out small pieces of paper with a 3 word description telling Elektron what to make next. And it’s VERY cynical to think we just ā€œget what we getā€ and are then dissuaded from wanting the product we originally wanted by complex marketing.
