Your favorite ableton devices, racks, M4L or any other settings you thoroughly enjoy using in ableton

I’d love to hear some people talk about their favorite synths, devices or anything else used in Ableton. I just found a really cool VHS filter that’s fun as is the fractal filter. Both found on gun road. I’d love to see any other unique creations people have made as well.

Encoderaudio has a Turing Machine and a Rene sequencer that are nice to have in M4L.
10 euros each

I bought the turing machine over 5 years ago and they keep updating it in fun ways. They have a lot of other devices, cassette tape emulators, synths, fx, etc. But I really like their sequencers.

Rozzer’s Advanced Step Sequencer is also a gem:

Instrument wise, you can’t go wrong with the really awesome Sun Drums M4L drum synth that @ylva sells, included in the Sun Drums album:

Plugins:

  • fabfilter’s Saturn2
  • Valhalla 'verb and supermassive delay
  • I got Drumazon for free for some reason, and use that often (in a drum rack)
    Synths:-
  • Dexed (it free!)
  • Wavetable
    m4l:
  • m4l convolution reverb
  • Swiss Army meter,
  • Henke’s m4l GranulatorII device.
  • Rozzer m4l device.

Think those are my go to. Just got fors trio of bokeh, roulette and doublet, and I’m enjoying them.

thank you @AdamJay for the honourable mention and the kind words! please note that sun drums is a drum synth tho and not a sample player

Suzuki Kentaro’s stuff are the most musical and smart M4L devices i’ve came across so far. They are very pricey though …

You can see the devices in action on his youtube channel: here

Fors.fm’s Doublet (@Ess) is awesome. Rack it up, add 16 Macros and you have almost 100% control over all of the synth’s parameters. It is my miniDigiTone.

There is a Rene clone that is great. I think it is called Snakes.

Edit: thanks to @PersianHugs for starting this thread. What a great idea. Going to tag @ignatius as I am sure he has a lot of good suggestions.

I really like this one:

Really cool if you have no piano skills and music theory knowledge at all

Love the TX81Z clone in this pack called Opfour. It’s the only FM plugin I’ve used that has imported TX81Z and DX100 patches correctly:

Also used these Metropolis clones a lot:

It’s like the simplest granular audio effect ever, which is why I love it:

Just found out about Strange Mod by Dillon Bastan. I don’t realy use Bastan’s devices, even though they are quite impressive, but this one seems to be very much in my taste. The kind of stuff I will actually use in my music.
It’s a semi random generator based on chaos equations ( lorenz and such )
It leeds to very musical and fluid pseudo random signals. Predictible shapes but with unpredictible variations and evolution.
And it’s Free

And also I keep praising Kentaro’s work:
Re-constructor: MI Clouds like device. Live granular with superb UI and a very digital and cold sound. Lovely lovely stuff

LFO Morph: Simple LFO with the same wavetable as the Cluster LFO

Anything Push2 related? Synth or sequencer?
With a good controller support, maybe Synth or sequencer?
For some reason not all M4L products are Push friendly…

(You can use gainmatch or Ian Shepherd’s Perception AB)

This thread is a goldmine already! I adore Max For Live but find the disorganisation of plugins and lack of guidance on what is out there to be maddening.

My favourite third party Max for Live device is MDD_Snake. A simple René clone which fits so well into the Love ecosphere. MDD makes other great devices, such as MAUG and MARIONETTE.

Another favourite is Aicd by mganss. A simple and flexible acid pattern generator. Get your groove on!

There’s also RokVid by Adam Rokhsar which is a live video mangler which I highly recommend. I made some simple but effective music vids for Instagram with it and the results are really cool.

Fors Doublet and Chiral seem to work fine with Push 2 - albeit with very limited testing, as I’m still a noob to Live 11 and Push 2.

Unfiltered Audio Lion also seems to work fine.

I’m joining this thread!

After a couple of years making music without a DAW, I just installed Ableton Lite and it’s loads of fun actually!

I thought I’d hate working in the box loads more. But it turns out that Ableton is a lot more fun / clear / quick / intuitive for me than GarageBand. Especially since I’ve managed to get Overbridge public beta running.

I thought that they’d sorta do the same, GB and Ableton, especcially only the Ableton Lite version. But I feel so much less lost already. With Overbridge running its so much fun recording quick loops, and how Ableton automatically switches to the loop and mutes the incoming audio on the arranger track. Mainly curious to go and use for a bit more detailed composing, instead of recording everything one-take live in stereo only, as I did up till now.

Curious to learn more Ableton insights!

Hi there! I found the Rapidflow temp amazing!
I Loaded the rapid flow

template into my live set it took only a few minutes!

I found it very usefull when keeping the flow going when things broke down.

Also there are many presets you can I used for mods!

I can only say my sets are better and my studio sessions are now much tighter and and pro sounding.

Again wow and to top it off the whole things only cost a dollar, Amazing!

Check the links for ref. Go get creative! I myself, just over the moon.

This guy juste posted a “curated collection” of M4L device form differents programmers. It’s a selection of paid and free devices.

There is a lot of good stuff. I particulary like the sequence8 wich is a very deep yet straightforward parameter sequencer.
