Also I found (I’m sure many of you already know it) that an 8 bar pattern recorded at 120 bpm resamples on one samples track slot fully. It means that you may compose 8 bar pattern at 120 bpm, resample it to one sampler track slot, make another pattern variation, resample to another sampler track slot (up to 7), and then free all your drum and melodic tracks, and compose something else along with recorded sample track slots. It gives you much more capability to write richer compositions than without it. Then use the song option to put all scenes together, and the only limit of your creativity is the sky above ))

Now I have a solid keeper for my portable music composition. Selling all other portable stuff (i.e. Sonicware XFM, Roland P-6 and S-1, Korg Microsampler, Fred’s Lab Buzzzy!, Yamaha QY22, Akai MPK Play Mk3, NUX Stereo Looper, and a lot more) cause I don’t need anything more now )) Just keeping for a while an Access Virus TI Polar (just in case…), and a couple of MIDI controllers.

Some questions:
- Is the yamaha seqtrack a good mobile sketchpad?
- How do you like the workflow ux-wise?
Its been out for a while and I’ve been thinking about it for a while as a solution as portable sketchpad (another idea is the Op1f but its quiet pricey).
Surprisingly powerful. Sounds good, lots of presets of all kinds, especially useful if you’re not only doing electronic music. 6 patterns per track, 11 tracks. A bit short on melodic tracks (two + one FM + one sampler). Workflow is fine once you learn 4 or 5 button combos. You need to remember a few things as it is all lights, like on an op-z
The biggest problem is that it feels a bit flimsy, it’s mostly thin plastic. Battery life is not great. The accompanying app is pretty cool and complete.
It has p-locks but you can’t change sounds per step. One track = one sound. Except for the sampler of course, that has 7 samples that you can sequence individually.
I’d say for song sketches it’s pretty good considering the price. The op-1 is a completely different device, more synth oriented and all centred on a 4-track linear audio recorder. Very expensive too. You could hook up a Boss BR-80 to a seqtrak or an mc-101 or any groovebox and have 8 mono tracks of audio linear recording too. But it’s two devices, and you wouldn’t get the op-1 mystique, design, etc.

It’s good for a portable sketchpad. It’s fun and it sounds good and if you’re interested in microtiming, it handles it nicely. The build quality is definitely suspect. It’s my biggest con.
The Seqtrak has its own personality. There hasn’t been an update for a long time so maybe don’t expect a piece of gear that will constantly be developed.

Thanks to the hint from a user on Reddit, I finally found the right TRRRS cables for the MIDI port of the Seqtrak 
.
So I ordered two of these cables: First, an extension cable, so I can place the bulky Yamaha dongle away from the device. Second, a longer cable with two TRRRS plugs, which I will cut in the middle to solder on “normal” MIDI plugs.
The product names of these cables: DELOCK 85700 + DELOCK 85697

Good news about the larger capacity battery for SEQTRAK:

The original one has around 2100mah, and the replacement one has 3400mah, and the same voltage. There is the same connector, unplug the old one, plug in a new one. Obviously, you open up the module, and lose the warranty. I don’t care about it more than about my play time, and that’s a couple of hours more which I like greatly!

In theory, the larger capacity should give us up to 6 hours run time. Not bad.

I’ve charged it fully and now put it to work - start a sequence on internal speaker and connect a USB MIDI keyboard to it. Will see for how long it will keep new battery’s charge in real life.

To compare an original battery (2,100 mAh, 7.6 Wh) with a new one (3,400 mAh, 12.58 Wh), if it is for real what they put in writing, it must work for at least 4.5 - 5 hours. Now after 3 hours of continuous and quite heavy load there tree indicator LEDs keeps lit. I also count on untrained new battery (it needs at least 2-3 power cycles passed). Even in this variant I really like it.
Full load took little more than four hours till discharge. Charging overnight now, and tomorrow will check again.

How was the assembly. Do the batteries have the same Dimensions? (asking for a friend 
The assembly was super easy - disconnect original battery and connect a new one. The batteries are of the same size, a new one has a bit longer wire which is no problem at all.
BTW, just started a new test. Will check in four hours how many LEDs remain lit.

Question from a new Seqtrak owner here… Is there a way to select a user recorded sample on a drum track using the Android app (preferably)? Failing that, is it possible using the Windows app? I’ve only worked out how to assign a sample already on my Windows PC to a drum track, which is good, but not ideal for me.
Today my SEQTRAK worked 4 hours and 45 minutes on a new battery under heavy load (sequence playing on an internal speaker ) Me totally satisfied )).
