Different setup here but I have the same problem. I hope someone has a work around or this is fixed with the next update.
This or the new Ableton Move which is £100 dearer?
Drum Synth and Sampling engine
Midi sequencing
11 Tracks(thats 7 more than the Move).
Additional bonus of a light show
Very similar form factor
Hmmm decisions.
For me, without a doubt the Seqtrak. But it has flimsy keys that are annoying tbh. If you need advice, I have one in front of me.
Iām on the fence as well with this. Also looking at the MC-101
Could you tell me if there is something you noticed the Move can do that the Seqtrak cant? It seems very very similar bar the wifi to Ableton cloud. But i guess you can easily transfer files into a daw just an extra step needed. Cheers
And vice versa. Things the Seqtrak can do but the Move cant if you possibly can?
The whole connection with the Ableton universe I guess.
Sampling is not great on the Seqtrak. Keys are flimsy/inconsistent so it needs a midi keyboard. Up to 8 bars per track/pattern. But a huge collection of sounds, fx and as you know 11 tracks with plenty of polyphony make all the difference for me.
I am not a ābeatmakerā though.
I found the 101 ran out of channels very quickly and the menu diving was terrible. Setting up fx was annoying ⦠I wanted a nice Roland rompler ⦠it wasnāt for me
I mostly want it for the sound engine to sample into other devices since it has something like 3000 presets or something. So maybe that wonāt be an issue for me. I also have a Digitone so Iām kind of used to the 4 track limit haha.
Maybe try a Roland cloud free trial ?
Tried that a bit but I donāt love doing things like that on a computer vs something more tactile and physical.
I have the Seqtrak. I love the feature set, but itās been a slog to learn, and the build quality is a turnoff. Iāve gone back to the Circuit Tracks more often, honestly.
That said, the iOS app is robust, the sound set is extensive and well done, and performance FX are fun. If youāre willing to invest the effort and comfortable adding a complementary MIDI controller in some cases, I still think itās a good buy ā just a more opinionated one.
I have an Ableton Move ordered, arriving later this week. Excited to compare the two. The clip-centric orientation seems not so strictly sequencer focused that I expect it to be a better fit to my mental model, but Iām sure thereāll be other tradeoffs.
Can totally recommend the MC101 it as Sound Module.
Tons Roland/Synth Sounds.
Random Function is really inspiring.
Be ready for a learn curve if you new to Roland but really worth. Has many more tricks under its sleeves.
Complements SeqTrak AWM2/FM architecture nicely.
I have both the MC-101 and the SEQTRAK
Prefer the SEQTRAK, particularly when mated with the MiniLab Mk3 - you can even get a 3D printed stand for the pair:
Stand details are available from:
https://www.printables.com/model/990704-yamaha-seqtrak-stand-for-arturia-minilab-3
Hereās a video from the guy who designed the stand:
Hey, anybody managed how to change metronome sound of the SEQTRAK? The manual says there are five of them, and can be interchanged in the app. Looked through the app, and didnāt find where itās done⦠Overlooked? Anyone got it?
Bit late here, but in case it helps:
I bought an MC101 for use as a sound module.
Then discovered bank change/program change doesnāt give you access to all the sounds in the usual manner. So you canāt change sounds remotely via MIDI.
Might not matter to everyone, depends what you need.
This thread is about Yamahaās Seqtrak, I think you have to ask your question here.
Sure, apologies for the OT!
I wasnāt asking a question though, just warning @tyrnnsrs about the limitations of the 101 as a sound module (someone else recommended it to him upthread).
Perhaps I could have just posted in the MC101 thread and tagged him!
Kind of relevant though, as a few people were comparing the Seqtrak vs the MC101 as a sound module.
NP at all!
Actually there is on piece that it is useful here. If you want to connect your SEQTRAK with an external sound module - how does the SeqTrak trigger program changes.
I could not find how this works easily.
Managed to upload a good score of melodic samples to my SEQTRAK to use them with the drum tracks. Superb! The downside of it is that the polyphony on the drum tracks is only one sound, i.e. monophonic⦠But at least the tail of the sound is not cut off so now I have a LOT of melodic instruments at once (11 to be exact). And it frees polyphonic tracks from monophonic instruments like bass and leads. Neat!
