Yamaha SEQTRAK

Yeah, their build quality is excellent.

Yamaha used to build quality boxes as well. The RM1X and RS7000. Fantastic build quality.

I’m loving the sounds from all the downloadable sound packs and the workflow is super quick for me. The only issue (which is totally my fault) is not doing a temp save before I start exploring/tweaking effects, parameters and sounds. Related to that is when I accidently select the wrong synth/drum and start moving the FX parameters messing up the settings that I had.

I noticed that the beat repeat effect makes a really nice lofi pitch shifter too. This is just one pattern smudged up a bit with some pitch shifting and sample rate reduction.

Totally agree on the ā€œhas everything I need to make musicā€ bit.
But then this is a music gear forum and the complaining has to keep going!

A classic, my Seqtrak content is always moving, backup is sometimes long and boring, i did losse stuff but quickly made soemthing else… hope next OS improves a few thĆ®gs

My Decksaver arrived today and it’s a perfect fit  I can rest a little easier when I travel with the Seqtrak now. I can definitely recommend it.

I’m thinking on getting SeqTrak and I wonder:

  1. if Yamaha added additional presets for AWM synth machines and is there a way to add more presets for AWM and DX?
  2. if there are any hardware issues you aware of, like buttons fell off or encoders/potentiometers harshness, battery drains fast etc.
  3. if you expect Yamaha is going to support/update the unit often enough and long enough?
    Thanks!

I sold mine after a few months. The thing sounds really good but I did not get along with the sequencer and having no display at all although you can of course use your phone or tablet.

Most importantly though I did not like the plastic enclosure and the cheap buttons. Encoders are fine. But the step buttons suck.

Another reason was that I bought it to jam when I am traveling and quite honestly I never did that.

I’m not sure if you can add presets or not but it comes with a large library of sounds and you can further configure them using the app.

I have not experienced any of these issues however it is not the most robust device you will ever use. One drop on a hard surface and it’s possibly over

I think they will. There has already been one update and they seem to be very interested in feedback and suggestions. We will have to see.

Getting a Decksaver opened up that possibility for me. Before that, I always worried about it getting broken in transit. I understand your reasoning for getting rid of it.

Yes, you can save your own sounds.
You also can import/manage sounds via the App. There are additional packs you can access via the app, where you can import sounds from additional to the presets.

Here a demo of this. I bookmarked the section. Listen into for 2-3min.

Thanks!

Thanks mate!

You’re welcome. I’ve been very pleased with the Seqtrak. I recommend giving it a try. If it’s not for you, send it back.

The thing is if I buy I won’t be able to send it back as there is no any official Yamaha reps. that sell Seqtrack where I live, so I have to buy from US and use freight forwarder. This makes choice harder  I need to be completely sure I want it. And I’m sure I want it  It actually has what I want from portable groovebox: Sample and Synth parts combination (critical), step sequencer, song mode (critical), probability and affects, rechargeable battery, USB Audio. I don’t think there is a better option out there. Even just sample and synth parts combination is a gamechanger for me.

I understand. The best bet is to play it safe and do a little more research to make sure it’s definitely what you want. There are a lot of Youtube videos about it (of varying quality). If you check through this thread, we’ve done a lot of testing and experiments. The main gripe seems to be with build quality and not with performance.

My personal experience has been a good one. It’s fun to use and only takes a little while to get used to. It sounds good and is very flexible. If you do decide to get it, I hope you enjoy it.

I checked all possible reviews on youtube and seqtrak seems to be a good choice for me. I’m glad to hear that there are not much problems with hardware unlike my OP-Z

Wow, Loopy Pro has really developed.
This is so easy

  • to connect via single USB cable
  • sync the bpm with the Seqtrak MIDI
  • capture a 2/4/y Bar recorded patterns into clip/loops (maybe with some real time performance of FX, FilterSweep etc)
  • arrange those in a song timeline

This to get me way closer to complete song ideas. With more melodic and sound variations than just the 3 synth songs at 8 bar limit.

Next stop test how to record external audio (voice / acoustic instruments). And control some of the hidden functions via MIDI Sysex.

Ok. Here the issue - I could not find a way that if loopy pro plays loop that I can record a single instrument.
The USB In Signal gets mirrored on the USB Out.
Which makes it hard to record single instruments via audio.
Currently the workaround is to record the midi on SEQTRAK and than record the loop separately but the in can record on up to 8 bars which are for leads or pads often too short.
Do I miss anything here?
