Who's using an A4 cv to Modular?

Put maths out into the “control” in of the optomix

Thanks! I’ve tried that too, but to no avail. It doesn’t seem like Maths is receiving any trig information from A4 though (no blinking on the wave output on ch1 when it’s supposed to receive trigs), so I think there must be something wrong on the A4-side of things, but I can’t figure out what I’ve setup wrong.

hmm that’s odd. I can trigger the functions to act as an envelope from either the signal input or the trig input using either a gate or trig signal from the A4. I know Maths is a bit different with the summing and all but…
Where you have maths running in the pic is an audio input though.
You have the src set to your cv track on your trig right? I know I accidentally moved mine to the fx track once and couldn’t figure out what went wrong. lol.
BTW how do you like the rec1-b?

Yeah, it’s odd, it should work as far as I’ve gathered. I have source set to CV on the CV trig track, yes. And when I play the mini-keyboard, I can hear the notes from the Braids just fine, but the Maths doesn’t seem to receive the trigs for some reason. At work now, so will have to look into it again tomorrow.

Rec1-B is quite cool, very off-beat and odd, but you can create some rather interesting sequences with it for sure, especially if you beef it up with some of the A4 effects. Looking forward to seeing how it integrates with a bigger system. It might look like a toy, but I believe it could be a pretty powerful module in the right hands. Lo-fi, sure, but very immediate, and the results are often surprisingly good.

I’m going to make some sort of demo of it one day, as there aren’t too many around.

Did you change any of the settings in the braids like TDST or TSRC. You may have set it to only fire when it receives a trigger.

Also the sequence might be legato meaning it wont retrigger the maths? I have that with my function sometimes if I play notes in legato with certain envelope shapes it wouldn’t retrigger. I didn’t really experiment to see if that was really it be it seemed to be the case.

I haven’t really changed any settings on the Braids as far as I know, basically just scrolled through the menu to check it out, but pretty sure I didn’t edit anything.

The sequence wasn’t legato, so the Maths should’ve been triggered. I only had a few minutes with the modular today, and couldn’t really figure it out, I’ll have to troubleshoot some more tomorrow, probably some basic thing I’m overlooking. Thanks for your help though!

Turns out the EKO kit I ordered was out of stock, so not getting that one afterall, but got a surprisingly big paycheck today, so Morphing Terrarium, Frames and Ripples have been ordered! Damn, I’m looking forward to integrating them into the system.

Check out this guy, by the way;

M. Geddes Gengras. Brilliant composer/musician mostly using modulars. His ‘New Process Music’ from last year is a great example of some very musical output by a modular, in my opinion. Just one long gorgeous record. Last track is my favorite, makes the hair on my arms stand every time I hear it.

Finally got the sequencer to work. I reloaded the A4 kit and changed to a different pattern, and now it works. Very strange.

Must have unknowingly changed some settings. Glad it’s working now. Man you got a ton of modules on the go. Frames too. Dead jealous. I just ordered tides and that’s my money gone for another month.

Yeah, or somehow just gotten silent. Had it happen to both the Monomachine and the Machinedrum a lot, tracks that are active won’t play anything, and a reload of the kit, skip to a new pattern then back to the old, and then the sound is there again. Oh, well, not important.

Yeah, ordered three yesterday, Frames, E350 and Ripples. That’s pretty much my money gone for the month as well, unless someone wants to buy my Machinedrum.

The Tides, eh? I read about it the other day, sounds pretty interesting, sounded like it was something straight up your alley. Looking forward to you demoing it! I’ve decided to do a sort of “Modular Ditty”-diary myself, but not sure I’m going to publish it, as the quality so far hasn’t exactly been staggering, haha.

Well I’d love to hear it. If you do publish it, hook us up with a link mate.

Frames, Ripples and E350 is a big monthly purchase. I only ever have enough for one module. Need a pay rise lol. Ripples is really lovely. I think you’ll be happy with that. The E350 looks amazing. If you ever come to sell it I got first dibs because I’d really like one. Frames looks mega deep too. You got a full proper set up now.

I had my Tetra on Yahoo for a week and was hoping to get either a rene or echophone with the proceeds but no one bought it so I’m out of luck.

The tides should arrive tonight so hopefully I can take a video or two.

If I get satisfied with something, I’ll show you. It’s definitely a big monthly purchase, I have worked lots of weekend night shifts the past month, and that shit pays! Haha.

Really looking forward to digging into them. First dibs acknowledged, hopefully it’s a keeper though. The cool thing so far is, every module you add can potentially add new life to any other module and to the system as a whole, so it’s kind of risky selling modules, because you never know when it’s going to make something else shine.

Don’t you have a local Gumtree/Craigslist sort of thing over there? Maybe eBay is worth a shot?

Looking forward to hearing the Tides in action!

Glad to see you got it sorted Daisuk. Hope to hear some rec-1b demos soon! I just placed my order with analog haven for a bigger case an Echophon, the rec 1b and an A-118
Can’t wait to integrate the Echophon, it looks amazing

Echophone looks fantastic. The pitch control seems like it would be handy. I don’t know but it looks like you could sequence the delay line so effectively you could set up a sort of duophonic line using it.

Hmmmm. Been offered these modules for my Machinedrum. Kind of feel like doing it, but haven’t decided yet.

Doepfer A-110 VCO
Doepfer A-130 VCA
Doepfer A-124 Wasp Filter
Doepfer A-199 Spring Reverb
Wiard Enveloper
Division 6 Filtare Filter
Manhatten Analog CV/Audio Mixer (very limited release, apparently)

On the one hand, they take up a lot of rack space, and if I had the money for the Machinedrum, I would probably not buy any of them. On the other hand, Machinedrums doesn’t seem like the easiest thing to sell these days, these modules would increase the playable-ness of the entire rack by quite a bit, and I could always just get a new case when the one I have gets full. Gotto catch them all! Haha. It might actually be easier to sell those modules individually as well, than to sell the MD. Hmmmmm.

Anyone here got any experience with any of these modules?

the wasp filter is interesting sounding for sure.

Yeah, it does sound pretty interesting.
Since you asked for it, here are some synth-farts courtesy of my quite limited system (and skills) and the Octatrack;

eh? sounds fine…but those are definitely not synth farts

Interesting stuff. Chaotic but nice too. Keep em coming mate.

Can I ask you guys about clock ? I’m having trouble clocking tides with the a4. Not sure which settings I should use. Any advice?
