I tested this with a few projects last night, and it changed some of the folder organisation of my Samples on my DT2.
I have reviewed both the DT2 Manual and the most recent Transfer Manual (2022!). The only mention of importing DT1 files into DT2 is a lone short paragraph on Page 21 of the DT2 manual:
‘It is possible to import DT1 projects into DT2. However, due to changes in the device architecture, the patterns in the project might not be 100% the same in some cases.’
Not a great deal of info! Is there more information on this functionality anywhere else?
There’s an April 2024 Transfer Manual that I noticed this morning for 1.8. I had to update to Transfer 1.8.6 and found it.
Not sure it will help for what you need but thought I’d mention.
Page 9 of the 2024 1.8 Transfer manual covers it, though it doesn’t state it explicitly. You just need to export the projects from DT, then transfer them to the DTII.
May be worth noting that when transfer is finished on the DT2 the project can be selected and used but what’s stored on the DT2 is, for the moment subtly different to a native DT2 project.
It has some extra symbol beside it in the list of projects
when you load the project the screen says something different. “Importing” rather “Loading” IIRC.
As soon as you save this project on the DT2, that difference goes away.
In practical terms not sure how much difference this makes.
I’ve also noticed that it has created a new folder in my Samples folder called ‘Projects’ - which then has a folder for each of the imported projects.
Does anyone know if I want to place these samples in with the rest of my samples, if the projects will automatically locate the samples after being moved?
(Or do I manually have to keep track of them, and ‘relink’ them when I open the imported Projects next time?)
I’m pretty sure I moved the folders around with transfer and everything stayed linked … BUT … it was a few days ago, can’t be entirely sure (e.g. I may have been careful to first make sure I did not have the project in memory at the time.). It may pay to be cautious and back up the entire project first, then try a live rename.
