What's your TECHNO setup

I was just in doubt to give the techno template a try on my MKI, not being sure if it would work properly! Thanks!

At this moment smaller than ever…

Had to open my MacBook once to assign a source track to a gate (cannot wait for Ableton to add the assign feature that they already added to compressor to everything else that needs it).

Perfect setup for some music making in out camper!

Mostly experimenting with my Moog Studio setup at this time. It is connected through Bitwig Studio along with a Vermona DRM1 MKIV and Waldorf M. Overall, lots of fun.

Here’s where I record. Im making quick groovy techno. Was mpc1000 and Digitone for a while, but digitakt is working better for my sound and the Nord is more playable and routable than DN for me.

really liked the video, I have a question, before you record, do you monitor everything through ableton with the fx added during the “jam” process or do you monitor directly from audio interface and add them later?

I monitor through ableton, (hardware) FX are on sends so only printed when I print the master, unless I record them in a separate track but I can hear them while I jam. I usually consider FX as part of the sound.

thanks for the info!

Octatrack Mk2 serves as mixer (2 mono inputs + 1 stereo input) / live re-sampler
MAIN OT OUT into FMR RNC for limiting
FMR RNC OUT into Analog Heat Mk2 for saturation, EQ, dirt, Env follower

My current setup, using all 4 channels of the Xone 42: Octatrack main and cue out in channels 1 and 2, Syntakt into channel 3 and Digitakt into channel 4.

I mainly mix between devices like a dj set but often build improvised combos of patterns on all devices. Octatrack has a lot of loops and stems from my Ableton projects!

Trying to simplify things a lot to reignite my trying to play live in my city, I just bought a Digitakt that I’m going to couple with my Octatrack for a pure sample based setup: Loops and stems in the OT, Drums and one shots in the DT, everything coming from my DAW projects, transitions using the OT as a looper, recreating patterns as much as possible instead of just playing loops, finally learn how to use the crossfader to its true power, thus getting super playable versions of my tracks. Might add a synth later (Typhon in fact) but right now I will be focused on making this simple version work on its own.

I have this fantasy of having only these two in front of me as a clean simple setup that I now how to use very well.

At the moment, I’m having joy with just limiting myself to Koala Sampler! I’ve always mentally pigeon holes it as an amazing tool for making hip hop beats, but with the mixer section and bus effects added, you can totally make great techno inside the app.

I played a mate a sketch I had been working on, and he is so anal/critical about what ‘is a good kick’, and he was praising the kick! It was achieved with liberal use of Koala’s drive effect and resampling…

both L/R split to Dude mixer then Nanocompressor.

I’m giving this subset a whirl

Might need to add the Cyclone TT-303 to it though.
