Not every item is turned on when working in the studio. I usually start with one or two synths and a drum machine, and build up from there as needed. Not too dissimilar from your approach. Even though I own a lot more gear now, this setup is scaled down compared to what I used in the mid 90’s through earlier 00’s.
Yeah, makes sense. I see you have a Prophet 6 Desktop. How does it stack up to the OB-6?
They sound very different from each other. Neither is a replacement for the other.
I preferred the OB-6 as it has a more old school, vintage sound. The Prophet 6 leans towards modern sounds.
Less is Amore.
Sooo, I went from DT to A4 and I’M IN LOVE.
A4 is great for techno, it’s all about the micro details when doing sound design and writing patterns.
Found this groove this morning… (supported by Erica Hats+Cymbals, Entity Percusion sequenced by nerdseq)
The syntakt is everything I had naively imagined the digitakt would have been, although that being said I really love both boxes.
I mostly just watch YT vids and copy to taste (smooth brain). Was a game-changer when I realised I could use oneshot LFOs on the ST kicks.
I can make sweet drum patterns now but my melodies are very cringe
Nice setup, but the most valuable item in this picture is made of wood
Yeah, very nice wooden desk.
What is your mixer?
I’d love to hear what you create with that setup. Got some nice bits in there for sure.
The mixer is an old Yamaha MG24/14FX obtained 20 years ago. I mainly used it for live shows at that time. It has the capacity to setup four stereo or eight mono auxiliary effect channels, which I find the most beneficial feature. Otherwise, it is nothing special.
Great set-up, but no Elektron?
Not in this setup, but I do own the following Elektron products:
- Analog Four MKII Black
- Analog Rytm MKII Black
- Octatrack MKII Black
- Model:Cycles
- Model:Samples
The Dark Trinity gets used quite often. The Model products have not been touched in years.
RYTM Mk2
2600 M
Toraiz AS-1
Plaits
Clouds
I don’t do 4 on the floor techno, but here my live rig in action enjoy
