Using pre-configured bank

Correct! with crossfader transition you can move the sound from actual tracks to the Flex recorder buffer once the first round of recording has finished, without microtiming.

Great, I need to figure out if this way of transitioning is enough for me.

Yesterday I spent some time creating the project, I discovered how to copy and paste banks. I have some questions:

  • How can the Pre-Sliced bank be set? I tried with several tracks reproducing R1, for example, but if I set the first track to have 4 slices, this is hardwired to the R1, and not the T1, even if I go to another bank or part.

  • I read several threads about gain staging, but I still donĀ“t get it: I tried recording to R1 a Drum Machine bank sample. Then I went to the Pre-Sliced bank and played the R1 buffer in T1. To hear it at the same volume I had to turn the sample gain to +24dB and the AMP vol to 127. Is this right? IĀ“m not using T8 as master now. Anyway the sound I hear in the Drum Machine bank is different to the one I resampled, it hears slightly different and I thing itĀ“s because of the gainā€¦

  • I created 3 or 4 banks but, when I press the bank button, I only see the 16 highlighted in green (and the current in red). Why are the otherĀ“s light off? TheyĀ“re saved and their parts too.

  • Is there any way to copy/paste tracks? Or I have to do it page by page?

Itā€™s really easy. If you record the output of a OT track (or the master, or a cue mix) the recording will be at the exact same AMPLITUDE as the source (unless you start messing around with GAIN settings which you do not need to do unless you need to CORRECT something. To play back the recording at the exact same VOLUME as the source, the output LEVEL of the recording track should be at UNITY which is 127 otherwise youā€™re attenuating. The default 108 setting is equivalent to -3dB, thatā€™s what you are experiencing probably.

I resampled the MAIN in T1 (without having T8 as master), then I set R1 in the other bank to be the source of its T1, nothing else. I thought about the level, but the volume didnĀ“t change so much when I set it to 127.

Ah, I thing I understand, so each one of the 8 tracks that are being recorded has to be at 127?

3dB is not much, itā€™s a slight difference but it counts in the perceived loudness

I meant the level of the new T1 playing the recording.

Iā€™m in a hurry so canā€™t do a live chat, but in a nutshell, it depends on how you sum and what you record. Start over by setting every setting named GAIN to default. If you now record MAIN, T1 should have itā€™s LEVEL to 127 (unity) and you should have equal volume. If this werenā€™t the case the famous " transition trick" wouldnā€™t work well, and it does. So if you donā€™t get equal VOLUME there something interfering like a filter, an envellopeā€¦

Ok thanks, IĀ“ll check.

I think I found the problem: I was recording the MAIN and I was using my headphones and hearing the CUE :man_facepalming:

SOHAM gave me some clues in other place, here you have:

Are slices saved in a part, or a pattern

As soon as [BANK] is pressed a prompt saying ā€œCHOOSE BANKā€ will appear. Banks with content are
indicated by green <TRIG> LEDs. A red <TRIG> LED indicates the currently active bank. As soon as a bank
is selected the prompt will change to ā€œCHOOSE PATTERNā€. Pressing a [TRIG] key now will select a pattern
located in the selected bank. Patterns with content are indicated by green <TRIG> LEDs. A red <TRIG>
LED indicates the currently active pattern. This method of pattern selection allows for quick changes of the
active bank and pattern. If you donā€™t wish to select a pattern, just release the button combination after the
ā€œCHOOSE PATTERNā€ prompt appears.

Correct! And if you want to copy banks, you need conennect to the computer or do more steps copy pasting parts and patterns sepparately. I donā€™t understand why OT donā€™t have copy paste bank without computer (I would like OT standalone), but thatā€™s how it is

There are some good things in the new boxes like copy/paste pattern, Control All and, of course, the graphical parameters. It would be incredible to have that graphics in the OT!!

You can copy/paste banks using OTā€™s file managerā€¦

You can copy/paste patterns on the OT you just also have to copy/paste its part if placing it on another bank.

You can get control all like results using scenes but you have to decide which parameters before hand and set the scenes. Scenes are rediculously insanely powerful, you can do far more wild stuff than just changing the same parameter in the same way on all tracksā€¦

You might be able to control all using midi loopback and setting all OT audio tracks to the same channel, never triedā€¦

It had not occurred to me to do it with the file manager, but I like it more than connecting it to the PC.

You go too far! someone will explode their brain thinking about those things hahahah

Whoopsā€¦
You can get the DT graphics byā€¦
Hahahā€¦

Yes but in DT and DN you can do it faster and without stopping the sound.

Iā€™ll do like Iā€™ve heard nothing about midi loopback XD.

Another cool thing is the DT mixer page, the Octatrack should have one!
