Unfiltered Audio - Battalion (soft drum synth)

Some more abstract stuff…

Some of my favorite uses for Battalion are for fx swells and textures, to be layered with more steady and predictable rhythm elements.

Sick stuff in both of these.

Promising use of the plugin for non percussive stuff too.

I really like that ! That’s what I like about this plugin!

I tried to use it with a ‘‘modular’’ approach (for the stepsequencer part) to make it an ambiance machine, the sequences can be divided with numerous steps etc. therefore very long sequences. It’s much simpler to set up than in vcv or bitwig, obviously keeping the engines and fx internal, but we find the joys of an esoteric reverb and delay in a module, the synth engines too, randomness and happy accidents and the processing of samples. I have for the moment bypassed the change of pattern with the midi mutes, (don’t cut the fx tail, it’s cool) and I manage with 8 tracks.
I hope for CPU relief and a method to chain the patterns! a song mode! ;)))

Here an example of a long intro with Battalion, then I improvised on it, to finish on the guitar, the good news is that it starts from Battalion so it’s obviously that cool a software me inspired. The example is long but it’s live (M+ and guitar at the end).

Fantastic! These are the kind of sounds that I find Battalion surprisingly good for, as it seemed to be first and foremost a drum machine. So many evolving textures to be had!

This was great man!

Kind of a long shot, but have you heard of the game Ghostsong?

This reminds me a lot of the soundtrack.

It’s a really solid metroidvania that doesn’t overstay its welcome, if anyone is a fan of that style of game.

It’s quite a nice compliment! I just went to watch the video game, and indeed the soundtrack looks just how I like it! The game reminds me visually of Ori. Yes my track is a bit long, but I like to install the atmosphere…

Just in case you thought I was referring to track length when I said “Long shot,”

It’s an expression. I was mostly saying that “I doubt anyone would have heard of the game but…”

I enjoyed the full length of your track and didn’t want to suggest otherwise

I found battalion sounds extremely good when i put it on syntakt’s saturation. Now i just make beats on battalion, let it go through the fx chain and improvise on other tracks on syntakt.

I heard the ios version will be release this later year and i hope there will be an Android one too

…yesh…it sounds ubercrispy…but always a good thing in first place, since it’s better to tame crispyness than any efforts to make it shine through a mix…and all mp3 warblyness impressions someone might mention, comes actually from all sorts of mp3 like data loss thin codecs. i’m afraid…
if someone really likes to judge it that way, u better run the demo to actually hear it for urselves…
end of the day, i’m personally still way more impressed by all the timeless simplicity of truu bottomline but super versatile and flexible alive organic drum synthesis, good old micro toniq has to offer…another workstation interface for one shot magic all on it’s own is just too much for me…
even given the fact, that battalions sound pallette is top notch and pretty tempting…

Happy user of Battalion here as well, thanks! I just found this thread and luckily noticed the beta update👍 (nothing on PA updater/site tough) Now things are working much better and no hard crashes anymore!

I’m still a bit confused of some of the bugs like the user presets. I haven’t manage to save any of my presets to that existing folder, just made a new folder to battalion directory. Also the presets wont be saved everytime when using save as or trying to replace an existing preset.
I dont no if this a some sort of a problem in my MBP os…

And as somebody already mentioned this plugin is one hell of a cpu-hog😅 Never experienced so high cpu on Bitwig even just opening the Battalion.

Does this cool thing run properly on a Surface Pro 8?

Any new info about the update?

We submitted the patch the day I got the confirmation that it fixed both the hard crash and the lockup here. PA’s QA process can take 2-3 weeks sometimes. I’d recommend download the builds that I posted here since they’re identical.

Ok just grabbed this. Some of the stuff in this thread are the best examples ive heard for what it can do! Well done.

As opposed to probability on sequencer, can it be controlled to fire at specific intervals like elektron, for example 4:4 = trig once every 4th time around?

My apologies if this has been asked but are there any plans to add the ability to export the parts as individual audio files? Once I get a part dialed in, I often like to work with audio files to lessen CPU strain, ensure they’re locked down forever and also for ease of mixing little nuances as I want them.

Thanks!
