Torso Electronics S-4 (sculpting sampler)

100%.

Still looks like they are unsure in their firmware and what they want to ship. This might have been an impulse purchase for me if they had dropped a proper demo at announcement. At this point I’m gonna wait until unaffiliated demos and reviews pop up.

But maybe it is working for them, otherwise they would’ve stopped?

I like the way he’s looking to the left at 30sec to check his mail or whatsoever on his laptop.

In regards to sound, I’m not sure what people are expecting… it’s a looper/granular/fx box. The demos make it sound like what it is… a looper/granular/fx box.

This could be really cool, will be interested to see how it shapes up.

Sony are definitely going to sue them for using the Playstation buttons though.

For the life of me I don’t understand why people are bothered with these short demos. Is it because people now expect a full on Loopop hour-long full feature deep dive months before something is released? Or is it that people want to know absolutely zero about anything until they’re able to know literally everything about it?

I’m guessing it has something to do with the combination of offering it on preorder while simultaneously not showing much about the product being “sold” and so there’s an anger and fear about possibly missing out on being an early owner of something that might turn out to be awesome. Parts shortage-induced fear has made us worry that if we don’t jump on something early then we’ll never get the chance to own said thing. Maybe it’s annoyance that Torso is banking on a brand loyalty to sell it based on one successful product launch with the T-1.

Anyway, I apologize…not meaning to attack anybody…of course everybody has a right to their opinion. I’m more just intrigued by the way people have continually posted their annoyance and frustration here. Obviously there’s something to it and I hope Torso is paying attention…I’m just curious as to its nature.

what are peoples thoughts on the digital reverb they have shown off?

Part of the annoyance (for me) is that they’ve been essentially teasing an unfinished product for 2 months now. These so called demos are very samey and don’t really give all that much insight into wherher the device is something that would be useful to your not.

If you are ready to release something, release it. If you need cash to finish developing a product, ask for the cash thru crowd funding. This here appears to be in the weird territory inbetween those two.

Quite fair, but I also see a lot of established companies take a lot of flack for attempting to crowd fund a new product. Seems like they’re trying something different and the responses are certainly mixed.
Edit: clarity

A large company asking for crowdfunding is kind of suspect but this being only Torsos second product (with the first one being even more niche than this) I don’t see anyone questioning a crowdfunding campaign.

They run a discord server for their community and right after the announcement 2 months ago it was flooded with questions about the device. To their credit they seemed pretty communicative however their answers revealed that they were unsure where they were taking the product firmware wise. Which again seems kind of backwards if you are accepting pre-orders. If you are running a crowdfunding campaign be upfront about it.

To my eyes the little 1-minute tidbits are a continuation of this. They are unsure about some things and therefore don’t want to create a comprehensive demo. Nothing wrong with that but I would expect marketing to be more reflective of that.

I haven’t bothered to keep up with their discord (again, 2 months of this already) so perhaps I’m reading the situation wrong and they’ve moved past this.

I think they’ve been quite firm about what will be in 1.0 firmware and what won’t be. The things that they’ve expressed uncertainty about are what exactly is on the roadmap for future updates and where those planned features fall on the backlog

LOL! The last weeks in this thread has been basically:

“I can’t stand those useless teasers”
vs.
“I don’t understand what people want”

You know what you’re gonna find here every time they release a teaser.

But I liked this last one.

Scrolled back in my posts to find these 2 quotes from their discord. To my memory there was more like this floating around back then.

We are still ironing out the specific details of the recording workflow though, so we can give you a more detailed answer on that later

We haven’t fully settled on a topology for the space module yet, but we are currently experimenting with having a certain fluidity in the interconnections of the delays and reverb in that module and having a lot of fun with that.

Doesn’t look that firm to me but again, perhaps things have cleared up, this was a while ago. Point being these kinds of answers I would expect for a crowdfunded product in development not for a product available for pre-order. Just what I feel and not necessarily the truth.

ah yeah, fair enough! I had forgotten about those messages and was only thinking more recently.

In case you’re curious, here’s an update from Mads posted last week:

I think it’s kind of insulting at this stage: 2 months of “teasers” – void of any substance – when people are begging for clear, real-world-application demoes. Surely this approach is costing them sales.

I’m not insulted. Then again, I’m not that easily insulted, and I have a bunch of other gear to use in the meantime.

i’d love to jump on their discord if there’s an invite and a chance to do that!

Agree the teasers are lame but anyone who pre-ordered based on the media available only have themselves to blame, don’t you think?

The teasers are not for those who have already pre-ordered. They’re supposed to be driving interest in new preorders. I have zero interest in purchasing this product and these videos are annoying me, on behalf of those who have non-zero interest. It’s supposed to be a “track demonstration”, but they cut away as soon as he reaches for the track button?

I pre-ordered my item because I like the conept of the T-1 an found the description interessting. But I must admit, hat I seen the teasers beforehand, I don’t know if I would have pre-ordered in the first place.
