I was going to pre-order but the teasers have kept me from doing so. I got the feeling that the product is unfinished and uncertain from these videos and their spare details…in a way the features list sold me much better. I really like the proposed concept of this device, it‘s look and Torso as a company / their output & concepts, but I went from „must have“ to „let‘s wait and see“ on this one due to the hesitant marketing approach and how the uncessant teasing put me off…
I never preorder l need to be convinced before purchasing a product. I find that the more info l know the better l feel about making a purchase. Another issue is purchasing a product thinking it will have certain feature in a update and finding out it won’t.
Seems pretty lame so far.
For whatever this information is worth, they marketed the T-1 the exact same way. You can see all the short teasers they had released for it on their youtube channel.
And people keep assuming wild things (like funding instability - …what??) based on the length of the teasers. That’s bonkers
I think this thing will be the cyberpunk of the synths, buggy at first but crazy cool after some fixes.
I’ll wait for the reviews and some updates but it’s definitely on my bucket list!
I don’t think you’re being rude, but I think it stifles the discussion to call people “negative” — you suggested “if you don’t like the videos, turn them off” and I’m saying if you don’t like this discussion, maybe just don’t comment on it. That’s all.
In any case, this is all irrelevant to thread topic, so just to bring it back on track: Teaser campaigns are generally obnoxious and unhelpful to conscientious consumers, but they can be effective for getting clicks and generating interest in a product, so brands will continue to use them, and we will continue to react to them. I think Torso is missing a huge opportunity to genuinely connect with their audience — gear heads who are thirsty for depth, details, practical insights about workflow, etc. — but hopefully that’s in the works and people will be happy when they do get that information.
Honestly? We know it’s a tiny team and that they’re basically all working on product development. Knowing the way they’ve worked on the T1, I think they’d rather not release, say, unpolished videos or the still-in progress manual, but they’re putting out what it’s possible for them to produce with the time they have. Could they put out more and make people happier? Sure, with a different team and more resources, or if they were willing to, idk, do a one-take unedited video, but they don’t want to do that. 🤷
I honestly think they should put out less and stick to periodic short textual updates on their Instagram. The broad outlines are clear; the fine details can wait until they are nailed down and in production.
Well, if I get my preorder and hate the thing, at least I can take comfort in the fact that my despair gave lots of people the opportunity to look at themselves in the mirror, nod, smile, and say to themselves, “See? I was right all along.”
Very nicely formulated
As a sample & drummachine kinda guy this looks really nice, the more esoteric earlier videos that came out first weren’t really my style but this last one made me get heavy GAS.
I often feel like effects aren’t wowing me in samplers like they do in pedals, but this sounds really nice. Would’ve loved to hear a A/B bypass sort of thing, to hear it without any effects.
now this is what forums are for
The teaser thing can be super effective if it’s followed up with substance. When it teases about the substance.
I sincerely hope theirs it’s just a bit of a misguided marketing approach, and the actual unit is amazing. But right now we’re mostly ambivalent or annoyed. But I do think it could be a really useful box for live performance: which is why I care about it at all.
Are they trying to be deliberately non-musical? This demo was pretty good, up until the 0:20 mark, at which point You didn’t want to do a second take? These seem like truly baffling materials to use to market a new instrument.
I’m looking forward to this thing hitting the streets so we can hear it in a more musical context
Personally, I’’d rather see a manual first.
Demos look really like made by “technical guys”.
At least it’s not “mystery teasers” with blurred images and cryptic messages.
Still thinking the concept and design is cool and there is a lot of potential here, but waiting time/preorder batch size/price/video quality have not very good ratio indeed.
I like teasers from big triad (R/K/Y). Boom - 10 new products and readily available in all the stores
Yeah im not assuming anything from these videos. Ill wait for people to review it properly. The machine will be updated as well over time.
THIS I could for sure get excited about. Didn’t Synthdawg do the T-1 manual? Hopefully they work together again.
Crazy amount of consecutive flagged comments there.
I’m still hopeful this thing will be awesome, so I’m keeping an open mind
