Tonverk: User Thread

tell us more ! I used to have the A4 but made drums on the AR mostly. What are you doing with the macros?

Wavefinder is so much fun, my favorite sound source right now.

@Oxenholme has been completely killing it with tutorial content for the Wavefinder…check out some of his videos on YouTube. When he doesn’t reference it explicitly, pretty much any of the mod sources he applies can be activated through velocity mod and keyboard tracking.

Thanks for the plug

@Phallusxsolarus I have recently posted a bunch of Wavefinder drum examples in this thread. It’s really awesome indeed!

I’ve rarely been on the fence about obtaining a piece of gear as I have been with the TV.

I am thinking it could be a great “somewhat portable” all-in-one box that I could bring with me and get some music time in.

Only thing I keep thinking is that I love synths and I can get (another) nice desktop synth for the same price, something like a used Rev2 or GS Bree6, Teo-5, or others.

All my synthesizers now live in my tonverk.

how are you sampling your synths?

Are you sampling them in a preset fashion? As in construct a preset and them multisample thart particular sound?
Or are you sampling the raw oscillators?
Im confused as to what do do with, for instance, wavetable synths…

Just use Wavefinder on the TV instead.

well that’s not really the same.

I particularly sample the preset without delays and reverbs. I’ve sampled hardware but mainly I’m usings vsts from komplete. There are so many great presents…

I like synths so am enjoying making a patch on some hardware and multi sampling straight into the TV. People say you lose something, and you probably do, but he’s fun for me.

Wavefinder is an incredible digital synth on its own.

I think of the multi sampling engine as a sort of mellotron. It has its own character. You do lose any longer or evolving LFO-driven characteristics, but it still is so much fun, as you say

yeah i guess when I first bought the tonverk I was thinking of having captured some clone of my hardware instrument, but I quickly realized it didn’t quite work that way.

I have to play with the tonverk more, but i’ve been discouraged to find out a lot of the things I had imagined using it for are less fleshed out than I’d like. That’s not to say it’s not powerful.

Anyway, don’t want to relitigate the issues.

Tonverk works very well on its own or with just one companion synth. I enjoy using it by itself the most. (I never use the mutli sampling function, I don’t really see the point of that).

I am trying to record a sustained chord that lasts 4 bars from my Virus TI2 into a Tonverk track set to 8 bars. I have my note length set to 64. For some reason the Tonverk will not record a sustained chord for more than 16 steps. What am I doing wrong? I’ve checked the settings on the synth and i can sustain a note indefinitely. The pattern length is set to 128 with change set to 128 and reset set to INF. I’m not sure what else I could be doing wrong.

Make sure the release on the amp envelope is set to infinite.

As others have said wavefinder is great for wavetables. As for sampling I tend to make a sound and then multisample that but there are some great single cycle waveforms out there and wavetables of those put together. Starsky did that for £15k worth of gear recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvgvAM_4jFk

Is the latest firmware update save or are there any known issues it introduces?

I’ve barely spent any time with the arp or chord mode so far. Something about them felt off, but I couldn’t put my finger on why. Yesterday I deliberately sat down with them, and now I get the order:

Keyboard → Chord Mode → Trigs (sequencer) → Arp

So chord mode is applied at input: the chord notes end up on the trigs as fixed notes. The arp, on the other hand, sits after the sequencer and processes whatever the trigs play.

By now I find the arp implementation easy to follow, and it’s fun to use. At the same time, I keep wondering why chord mode doesn’t also sit after the trigs and be p-lockable. That would be close to my workflow in Bitwig, where I often set only the root notes per track and let automation and randomization handle the rest.

I assume it’s save to update then?

Haven’t seen any fresh problems.
