64 - 4.0ms is the Latency of the Track8 Application that runs in the iPad Container (so the latency the Track8 Hardware would have)
But there is extra Latency on top from the Audio Device + Core Audio
I’ll try to optimize the iPad ↔ Track8 Application part in the next update. I think there is some potential.
I didn’t want to dive into iPad latency optimization. Thats why I mentioned “no latency guarantees”
But now that I had a look at it, it isn’t that hard.
RTL measured for v1.2.2:
iPad mic + speaker: 38ms
Motu Ultralite mk5: 27ms
With my local build I now get:
128 Buffer:
iPad mic + speaker: 18ms
Motu Ultralite mk5: 11ms
So for the next v1.2.3 you can expect some major latency improvements (and maybe i’ll remove the latency comment from the description. I think these numbers are pretty solid)
I also get some audio crackling in the recorded take. Meaning that while monitoring through my interface and recording, I get the “correct” sound, but when listening back it seems to have been distorted somehow. I will attach a sound file for example, first with how it sounds when recording and then when listening back.
I don’t have any other audio interfaces other than my TX-6 and Sp404mk2 and I get the crackles when recording through both. I tried with different buffer sizes but all had crackling. The sample size was at 48k with both.
That sounds really strange, more like a conversion issue than crackling.

There we discuss all Bugs / Feature Requests. I already created a Bug report for this.

Can I just say that this is an incredibly impressive update list? It would be impressive for any company, but you doing this all on your own makes it even more impressive.
I’m not a Track 8 user but am watching what you’re doing here with interest and respect. I felt a bit bad for you that after dropping this massive update and success story, the responses read mostly like “I’d like to have another feature” or “why is the app named like that”, when everyone should have celebrated your achievements first.
I mean you made a fucking standalone app just as a little add on. And people’s response is to criticize you naming it companion app.
Anyways? you handled it all with great care and patience and I’m really looking forward to see what you will do in the future!
I wholeheartedly agree with above regarding how impressive all of this is, and for my own sake how fast you’ve been with support!
I have been watching Track8 from when it was announced and now having an iOS app so I can try it for myself is really great.
Slightly extreme take on a few people who are obviously interested and following development of the product asking how the app works and pointing out that the standalone functionality was easy to miss in the notes.
You’re right, I would write it differently today. Owners obviously like the Track 8 and didn’t ask for wild stuff. I was just reading that update post and expected a lot of frenetic response and was a bit surprised that there wasn’t.
unfortunately I’ve failed at the first hurdle, struggling to work out how to transfer an audio file into the app. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be most gratefull. I’ve found the browser button but still none the wiser
