I think what you found was the Project Browser. This is to switch between Projects, create new ones and transfer to/from the Track8 Hardware.
What you want is the USB Browser.
You reach the USB Browser view with SHIFT + SETTINGS (the top right button)
The App then asks you for an iOS base folder.
From there you can copy WAV files with the Copy Button (Arrow up)
Back on the Audio Overview you can paste the Audio anywhere on the tape at Playhead position.
(you can do the same with Midi files)
Thanks, I’m not the smartest when it comes to software. Thought I could intuit my way round but it hasn’t been obvious to me. Also tried to record via my audio interface but couldn’t get any input signal. I put it down to not having selected my audio interface , and tried doing this from the audio utility page but whatever knob/button I pressed there was no drop down menu to select from. It’s probably me not understanding the shift functionality although I did try using the shift button.
Love the clean looking interface , hopefully I’ll work it out soon enough.
Yeah, external Audio Interfaces on iOS work differently than on the Track8 Hardware.
You can’t select a Soundcard in iOS, whatever is connected is used.
If you just want to record a single Track at a time, select “MODE: SINGLE” and make sure “CH 1/2” is mapped to the Input you want to record from.
In v1.2.2 there are some Bugs regarding External Soundcard playback (can be distorted), these are now fixed with 1.2.3.
I hope Apple releases the new version in time.
I thought my interface wasn’t working but after having copied the file into another track I can hear it now! not sure why the first track gives me a greyed out wav!
Thank you. I really hope I can get the hang of it, as it looks like it could be a great more focused DAW replacement. At least a stop gap, before the next batch of hardware arrives. I’m hoping by watching one of these Track 8 video tutorials it will help me learn the app.
Nice update @colrad ! Just noticed it came through on the US App Store….i personally think you are underselling the app both price and description wise on the App Store. This is an amazing and sophisticated app and incredible it’s available on Mac, too. Thanks for all the work!
But just a heads up, this is exactly like the Track8 Hardware device. So you’ll be clicking Buttons with your mouse a lot. You wont be as fast as on the Hardware or an iPad/iPhone.
The only MacOS helper is a latching SHIFT button.
Yes, I was aware of it while looking at the screenshots. But it is also a perfect way to review the Track8 and its functionality before deciding to buy one (and a way to support you a little bit by buying the app!)
(Although I think a desktop optimised version of the track8 software would also be really nice!)
Just got your iPad app and testing it out for the first time. I’m having trouble MIDI clock syncing to external devices.
I’ve tried with the EP-40 Riddim and Circuit Tracks. I’m also using CME WIDI Master & WIDI.KO.II to sync via Bluetooth.
When trying to sync via Bluetooth midi the following happens:
It keeps crashing immediately when I try as Master or Slave with EP 40. If I press play on EP-40 it crashes immediately.
Circuit Tracks - nothing happens. Either way when I click play. So there is no sync happening between both.
I tried USB-c into iPad with EP-40 and I still couldn’t get it to work.
Then connected Circuit Tracks via usb-c with T8 as the Master. When I press play on the T8 the timeline on T8 plays but CT doesn’t. When I press stop the app immediately crashes.
So I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. What should I be doing to get this working.
Track8 doesn’t appear in the midiMittr app to make the MIDI connections, so it would be useful if it could be visible and connected here in the future.
As a test, I connected the EP-40 with the Circuit Tracks via Bluetooth MIDI (without using T8) and this worked fine.
Looking forward to using your app and integrating it into my workflow.
Not a critique, just an observation – app development brings in a whole new can of worms!
Hardware side of things is working really well, but the millions of possible combinations that come along with a bigger platform like iOS seems like a daunting hurdle for any developer!
Honestly, I only tested Bluetooth Midi on the App with Midi Controllers.
I don’t own any synths that support Bluetooth Midi for Clock/Transport syncing (maybe a good excuse to buy something new )
Thanks @colrad . Yes, a perfect excuse
Worth getting a CME BT device as they’re extremely versatile in turning non-BT synths/groovebox/controllers into Bluetooth and they’re very low latency.
