Kind of went down on the rabbit hole on Epiphone Crestwoods while waiting for the new guitar to show up. I discovered something interesting about the tremolo system. The string spacings on the tremolo (ratios?) are all different, so apparently unlike a Bigsby where there is a more pronounced detuning effect as each string detunes by a separate degree, it does a more uniform detuning as you bend, which supposedly makes it closer to what you would get on a lap steel.
You can kind of hear it in this clip I found online. Reminds me of 1950s country jazz tones. Gonna have to play some Santo and Johnny Sleepwalk when it arrives.
I hear that! I just received a guitar I ordered through Reverb and was crossing my fingers it would show up in good shape – and all went well good luck with your purchase
It’s a Crafter SA hybrid guitar, lipstick pickup plus LR Bagg undersaddle pickup. One of the selling points for me, over other hybrid guitars, was the 3 band eq & phase control. I plan to use it for acoustic duo performances (backing up vocals, with or without percussion). I find I play with too much funk for an acoustic to sit right, and these kinds of guitars feel a lot better.
I’ve had a couple of hours to play with it and I’m really enjoying it. Neck / action aren’t amazing but the sound is good and it’s lightweight
This is my first “nicer” acoustic after only playing electric for years and years and man, I have been absolutely loving it. 24.75” scale, which is my preferred length these days, solid top but laminate back and sides. I don’t have much experience with all solid wood guitars but it’s hard to imagine one sounding better than this DS-240. It just absolutely sings. Also has great intonation when capo’ed up. Got really lucky with it, as it came with a K&K Pure Mini pickup installed, which I’m also loving. It’s made my other acoustic (another Guild; the M240e) feel like an absolute toy.
Haven’t done much recording with it yet but if I do, I’ll make sure to share some clips. Highly recommended if you are looking for a sloped shoulder J45-like guitar.
Bill Burr takes shots at the guitar thread. I think this is from his latest comedy special (Not my video)
I actually visited a Guitar Center on my trip back to the US last week. My first time in one. Not such a great vibe. The staff was way overworked. One person trying to help like 10 customers. I felt bad for them. I tried a used Benson pedal after the guy offered me a pretty decent discount on it, but when I tried it out, it was totally messed up (scratchy pots, sound intermittently cutting out). Glad I skipped it. Not sure I’d visit again.
To balance out Bill Burr’s savage routine, here’s some positive vibes. This guy’s restorations have become one of my favorite things to watch on YouTube lately. I also love that stuff he chooses to play at the ends of all the videos as well. Really cool atonal stuff. Appears to mostly be covers from the comments, but really interesting.
Anyone plugging into the A4? Do I need to relocate my mixer and use a line level or is a preamp pedal (like any gain pedal) enough to do the trick. Recently acquired the A4mk2.
Specifically I’m thinking about plugging in the Bass ( passive p’ups) to do some sequenced high pass filtering.
@hausland I bought a Tonex One !
Convinced, selling HX STOMP and Pod Expres (I tested it 15 minutes : impossible to have a clean I like).
I will compare with Tonex Pedal next week and will keep my favorite.
Tonex One apparently sounds as good, very small and usb powered ability. Essential controls (bass mid treble, noise gate, compressor, reverb level, gain and master level.
The new Tonex Editor makes editing much more efficient.
I had the Helix floor, sold it to downsize and got the ToneX. Definitely sounds a bit better than than Helix, but I missed the Helix effects so I traded it in for the HX Stomp
Amp modelers sounds better by default I think. With good IR and tweaking you may get as good sounds with Line 6 Helix stuff. But I always lacked some mojo using it.
I tried a JCM 800 (used in the video).
No brainer. More limited fx on the Tonex, but I always found Line 6 a bit cheap.
I was about to take a Kemper Player or Nano Cortex. This tiny Tonex One can do great things imo.
