i will say besides all technical considerations, choose the one with the sound that gels with you. it’s an instruments first and foremost, if you gel with the sound , hte magic will happen anyway. if you take decisions on numbers, track ; polyphony but the sound you’re not sure , it will take dust unused on a corned of your desk.
Well said, I second that.
The dilemma lies in the fact that i like them both (from the various demos): the DN2 for his experimental/ambient vein and the ST for his “drum-oriented” attitude. And I like both kind of music flavours i could create with one of them.
Let’see what Thomann ore other EU shop are going to offer!
the digitone has some sort of glass over all his sounds , this machine fascinates me , was like that with the 1 ; same with the 2; the syntakt i really enjoy the synth machine, not so much the drums , you need to use the 2 lfo to make them feel alive and original but still don’t gel with it. i tried; i wanted.
you can find some really good deals on syntakt right now in the second hand market.
I think this thread started with the OP being frustrated by the inherent sound of the Syntakt. As has been demonstrated by all the skilled users in this thread, it’s fully possible to get away from «that sound», though it requires a bit of time and effort. Still I guess the Syntakt (like any synth) isn’t for everyone.
Personally I find it to be an endless source of creativity and fun. I don’t always achieve exactly what I have in mind, but I usually stumble upon something else in the process. This, coupled with one of the most intuitive UIs of any instrument I’ve ever played, makes the Syntakt possibly my favourite synth of all time
There are three ways to play chords on the Syntakt.
- The chord machine
- Playing the same sound on three (or more) tracks
- Using the SY Chip machine plus delay
This new song of mine uses all three methods.
It also uses all four new machines in FW 1.30 plus the euclidean mode.
Except for vocals, all sounds are from the Syntakt.

Maybe because I don’t do techno, I’ve never understood why so many hate the ST Hats/Cymbals. I feel like I can always shape them into a track that’s satisfactory to me. Maybe I’m not as fussy
Techno riff shenanigans with all the tracks through the FX track and some p-locking in 15 steps. DT comp on the master
Having a blast with HH Lab/BD/SD Acoustic and some of the older machines! Except for the vocals (processed through Koala sampler), this is all Syntakt. Thanks for listening.
I’m working on some tracks that are 100% Syntakt, here’s a fragment of one of them

CY Ride is amazing. I love CY Ride out of the default.
Retrig modifiers A and B variying LFO 1 & 2 depths, plus all the usual tricks:
super cool! what machine is the modulated one?
Thanks . Pretty much everything except the BD modern, hh and analog ride.
Don’t sleep on the Mod A and B.
