YIKES! that first one is a stone cold KILLER!
Thanks!
Hey, thanks for that, thatâs kind of the vibe we were aiming for so thatâs really nice to hear!
This might actually be the first Syntakt jam where I wouldnât be able to quite tell that it was made on a Syntakt unless I knew it first hand. I guess the complete absence of drums removed a lot of that signature sound to me.
That is a pretty rich and dense soundscape. Great job. Honestly, if Iâd heard that blind I would never have assumed it was a Syntakt. Sounds more like Prophet/Oberheim fatness. Such a versatile little box.
Really appreciate it! Yeah, the analog tracks are incredibly useful for this, and they play a central role in this composition where the âtrumpetâ, the âhornâ and the bass are all analog. (The strings are obviously SY Swarm.)
That was stunning. Syntakt would have been my last guess at the gear used to create that. Love to hear people flipping the script with a Syntakt, itâs really one of those machines that rewards trying to color outside of the lines.
outstanding. I love the rubbery bassline and the shaker sound.
one of the first things I created with the Syntakt. A joyful moment I remember!
A little bit of compression in Ableton.
Thank you!
Nice, another example of the type of sounds you wouldnât necessarily expect a Syntakt to make. This wouldnât have been out of place on Tangerine Dreamâs Risky Business score.
Thanks! I will listen to some music since I never heard of it before
I really appreciate it. And youâre right, thereâs something about âthat Syntakt soundâ that makes me want to work harder to push it outside of it. It was actually part of the idea with this one, to see if I could make it sound more like a pseudo-orchestra.
The original song idea comes from my friend who wrote a simple piece in FL Studio Mobile, we then took it into Ableton Live with ârealâ cellos and horns, but then I got this strong urge to attempt this on the Syntakt instead. And weâre both glad this song ended up being realized on the Syntakt and not somewhere else. Iâm especially happy about it because my friend has been pretty vocal in the past about how he thinks the Syntakt always sound like a Syntakt, and this was the first song where we were both in full agreement that thereâs literally nothing âSyntakt-likeâ about how it turned out. So, a little beef between us settled now.
Accidentally played these both with 8 seconds delay, they sound great together
I absolutely LOVE doing this, 11 independent fully fleshed out voices beg to be used this way. Iâve redone bits of a Beethoven string quartet, Arvo Pärtâs Pari Intervallo, itâs awesome.
The only conundrum I run into is this: you have to p-lock your way out of the voices sounding the same each retrig (filter/envelope settings + AENR) â if you donât, they can sometimes sound like MIDI, not an organic instrument.
That means you canât just send MIDI from a DAW/different sequencer, you have to sequence locally. That makes it hard to do longer evolving compositions where you have to move b/w patterns (no perform kit function, gah). You can kinda get around it with the external mod sources (AT, MWHL etc) since these stick across patterns (a super underrated feature!) but whereâs the fun in nudging a fader for 5+ mins during a gig.
Thatâs right, and I think thatâs part of the fun too. Thereâs eg p-locks to evolve the detuning of the swarm stuff since the LFOs were used for other things like mild tuning modulation etc. I have that LFO fading in too, which also helps.
Working with inherently unstable analog tracks in the foreground helps too, the horn has ring modulation, pitch modulation and inter-oscillator detuning and the âhornâ is then run through that âphasing filterâ (not sure what itâs called). Plus, I noticed after recording that that track was slightly out of tune initially because I didnât let the Syntakt warm up first. My bad, but I kind of like it.
Like peanut butter and chocolate, two great tastes that go great together.
Whoâs in for some Dub Techno ?
12 patterns, showcasing some of the âpolyâ capabilities making chords with multiple tracks.
The project file is available for download, made it âpay what you wantâ for the fellow nauts
My Syntakt and Digitone worked together on this, my new release. Except for vocals, no other sounds were used.
Lyrics is in Swedish and the title means âI still have the recordsâ The song is about the joy of keeping your real vinyl records throughout your life.
I hope you enjoy the music, even if you canât understand the lyrics.
FX
Ok guyz , one thing people underestimate imho is how great the syntakt also is as an external color box for your itb synth , here iâm using Opxa from arturia
first part dry in exemples fallowed by syntakt kiss
-
Exemple 1 : drive and some pan mod see how the drive give that thing life , notice that the original wave form used is : OSC 1 Saw +Pulse OSC 2 Pulse , both pulse smoothly modulated , those movement , subtile are here very timid at start but gets their words when drived !!!
-
Exemple : Filter goodness.⌠the analog filter and itâs lfo is where the money at !!! pure beauty , i donât even waist time with itb fx , here i used the Filter no 2 for this phasing mood that fits so well iwth obâs synth ⌠notice that all fx are from Arturia built in soft ⌠(had to compress this exemple if ya need the raw wave , holla) Lfo on pan a little to fast but i was on the rush
Wow, youâre right! #onlyatelektronauts @OTH
