Just received mine and the motor does not work Checked the motor settings and I have it on for record and playback. I found one at retailer and canceled my order with TE. Now if I send it back to the store, I have to get back in line with TE. Sucks.
Oh dear. You’d hope the QA would be more thorough on a device like this.
I am trying hard not to buy the TP7 , I was able to totally ignore the TX-6 but the TX7 doesn’t make sense to me without the TX6 smdh.
Me too, but this is helping:
I would use it for field recording, and grabbing stuff to sample later. What I have found, though, is that if I put Koala Sampler in my iPhone’s dock, it’s pretty much instant to grab samples.
Another one, a bit different this time in terms of workflow -
First, I recorded from the OP-1 Field, a piano lead into a Blooper. I used some Blooper fx to process it, then recorded that into the TP-7. The remaining pads were also from the Field, either directly into the TP-7 or through a Chase Bliss Habit first. And finally, I went out and recorded some wind with the TP-7.
Then, all of that went into the OP-1 Field for song writing, and each track from the OP-1 recorded separately back to the TP-7 when I was done with the song. After mixing and mastering through the TX-6 back into the Field, I then added a final drum layer onto a tape track, and that became the song I rendered onto the OP-1’s album feature.
I love using koala for capturing field recordings. I can get pretty decent audio when I pair my phone with my shure mv88+ mic, and the whole process of getting it setup requires very little effort… it’s not as sexy as the TP7 though and it’s off topic, so I’ll recede back to just being a viewer and admire all the TP7 photos and recordings being shared on here.
Super nice!
This is great!
It seems like you’re starting to get into the zone with these devices… it’s a lot of fun to witness!
Yep, when they’re strung together, it’s not much you can’t do.
Although at this point, I can see a product from TE that sort of fuses them into something more coherent. There’s hint and ideas in there that indicate they can talk to each other in deeper ways, such as the channel switching between the TX-6 and the TP-7 for example. It’s a simple but very convenient feature.
Let’s play with the idea that the OP-1 could control the tape reels of the TP-7, for example, and each tape track was visualised within the Field. Suddenly, you got a controller for the TP-7 but with the function of the TP-7. And then stream those tracks directly into the TX-6. And so on.
So there’s an irony here that with all these features now in place between these three kits, there’s also some inconvenience added to the convenience, in that they almost, but don’t quite, talk to each other in the way they clearly could.
It’ll be interesting to see what TE does to really fuse these kits together now, that the Field line-up is coherent enough to allow for such an approach.
That’s true and I think I’m beginning to understand: @circuitghost is a professional writer
You got me
Everything is a story worth told. You just need to find the angle in how to tell it.
There is a lot teenage engineering can do now that the field series is almost complete (hopefully op-z field still arrives one day). I know some on here are beta testers who have TE’s ear, so hopefully they can provide feedback to them. Here are some features I hope happen:
TP-7 overdub while looping
TP-7 selecting loop in and out points
TP-7 tape effects like warble, flutter, and degradation similar to generation loss pedal. Also a tape delay effect
TP-7 allowing additional tape tracks on op1-f when connected and being able to control the op1’s tape reel with tp-7’s spinning reel mechanism
TP-7 should become the master of all things tape, hence all the popular tape specific features above.
TX-6 and OP1-F Bluetooth midi sync
TP-7 and OP1-F when connected via USB-C allow individual op1-F tracks to be multi track recorded to tp-7 all in a single take
TP-7 double tapping side button allows tp-7 to switch to “ortho” remote mode, where tp-7s rotating disc now becomes an ortho remote to control volume, etc on OB-4 and OD-11
OP-1F Granular synth
OP-1F new sequencer(s) and new effects
TP-7 allow control over choir voices speed via spinning reel mechanism, allowing you to slow down/speed up choir voice, creating lush ambient vocal drones with the reel control
TP-7 and choir allow for tp-7 voice to text recognition to take what you say or sing into tp-7 and then have the choir sing what you just said
Interesting, the TP-7 paper manual that comes in the box shows overdub as a feature. It says to go online to read more, but overdub is missing from the latest online manual and it seems overdub is simply not a feature on the latest firmware.
@crevice from reading the manual before realese, i believe the extent of tp-7’s overdub function was only what was written in the manual as “mix mode” under edit recording section. I just checked the manual and that doesnt seem to have changed.
if the TP-7 did have separate info for overdub, do you remember what it said?
TP-7 can overdub. Either on an already recorded track, to blend whatever you already recorded with something new - though being TE, there’s of course no undo.
And also, if you wanna play it safe, just set the maximum number of tracks to a new recording and you got several layers of tape you can record one at a time or simultaneously, to make your overdubbing more safe.
The Edit mode allows you choose if you want to overdub or replace existing recordings on your current track.
It’s primitive, but surprisingly effective. If it synced and had loop points, I’m not sure I’d want for more in this area.
The maximum number of tracks is 6 stereo tracks?
Yes, but only if you connect it with TX-6, otherwise it’s 3.
Ok, that makes sense in a weird way, but also forces a different mindset compared to their other products. I wish it were a bit more straight forward like the OP-1. For example to overdub, you can just stay in regular record mode and you’re always able to overdub, just rewind the tape hit record and you’ll overdub over your recording. If you don’t want to overdub, then you just turn off overdub in settings or maybe a double tap or long press of a specific button/button combo. For example, I always want to be able to overdub just like the op-1f. My eventual hope with the TP-7 is to be able to set my loop points, have the thing loop and just layer my sounds over and over like the OP-1
