Can you not mount it like a drive on Mac? I was really happy to see on pc that I just had direct access to the file structure and could just drop my sample folders in with no fuss (well other than making sure the sample folders were well organized).
No, but it would be great if TE can enable this. At this moment it’s MTP only.
It’s MTP so you have to use the Field Kit app, which shows the XY’s folder structure the same as if it was mounted.
So essentially yes.

I agree man, I like the OPXY and all its functions, but having a fully functioning no glitch transfer app is what is best.

Nice review, but you are right, for that price they have to up the game. The synth engines are just not all that good.

They don’t have to do anything, it seems to do quite well and has the right combination of tools for lots of people. Just because you seem to want/need very deep synth engines doesn’t mean that XY needs to have them. Not every device has to do everything, that’s the point about hardware.
It does so many things and it does them quite well. I’m impressed that they give us a very powerful sequencing tool with features that Elektron users can just dream of. A polyphonic multi sampler plus many different types of synth engines that can do all kinds of stuff. All in one machine.
It’s not like they advertise this as a synth sound designer’s dream machine, so they don’t have to expand the synth engines. I actually like that they’re following more of a Syntakt approach with limited controls and macros for fast results, I have other synths if I want to do deeper sound design.

I don’t find the synth engines particularly good, but it’s a good sampler so I just use that.

I love the opxy, but I agree that synth engines are meh but don’t forget you can link tracks and make pretty complex patches with that function
I use it as a sequencer and since I bought it my cirklon it’s in a box.
I hope they’ll refine the existing features and up the game in the sampler side because I don’t see them making changes to synth engines or their approach to synthesis.
Some things are a bit inconsistent and others don’t make much sense still it’s one of the most ispirational tool I’ve ever used.
You have to try it to get how fast it is to sketch out tracks with it.

Also find the synths uninspiring but perfectly useable. If they somehow figure out at least +1 fx per track that would help massively to bring them to life. Still hoping for a proper 2op fm engine as well.

More or less how I’ve been approaching the XY too. I have no issues with the synths and use them a lot, but they’re definitely a bit more simple than even the OP-1F. Using samples definitely helps a lot to flesh out the sound of my songs on the XY and makes things easier when I have an idea for a sound I can’t create with the synths.

yea the synths and sampler are both pretty basic. that being said, the sequencer & master section are * chefs kiss *. so damn good. and that battery is magic.

I’m also using it with my M8, which does have great synth engines, but doesn’t have polyphony
I agree the synth engines could be better - I like prism and get some decent sounds out of axis but organ and hardsync are more or less useless.
But it’s an excellent rompler and pairs so well with external synths (in my case the Dreadbox Typhon or Oberheim SEM, depending on mood / where I’m writing) that I don’t feel held back by them.
I just want to add that I again tried adding samples today, including editing filenames to be short, containing no special characters, and just short samples only, and it got about 90% way through the upload then i got a ‘server error’ message, the transfer didnt finish
then my OP was acting all weird and opening to some bootloader screen, and i had to power cycle
after power cycling suddenly my OP seemingly had downgraded firmware to 1.09 (or was displaying such a number) and i had to re update the firmware on their web app, which mind you the web app crashed my browser on the first attempt
so again not able to import samples and another crash situation
and for the record i almost never have computer trouble or trouble updating any other devices and generally speaking i know what I am doing with computers
this sample import and now i’ll throw in OS updating situation is a giant fucking pile of garbage and TE needs to come up with something better
