i really recommend preparing your samples with one of the aforementioned web tools… the one i use (https://op-patch.studio/) handles file-naming, re-sampling, etc. so you just end up with a preset folder to drag into the user presets folder on the op-xy. imo it’s a much better UI than navigating a folder full of samples on the XY.

Issues with samples transfers were largely fixed for me in the last couple of OS updates, prior to that I was experience all the issues @blushresponse was. Since it showed you OS 1.09 after it rebooted, I’m guessing somehow it didn’t correctly update to the new OS when you tried before. I can’t think of a way it would automatically downgrade an OS update, there’s normally a lot of checks that prevent that from happening with any gear.

So it’s probably worth trying again to update the OS, and skip the web updater this time it;s slower and buggy as shit as you found. Easier and faster to just drop the update file on the device via the bootloader method.

Good luck!

Mine showed the latest version consistently for a month until this problem today so I don’t think so

honestly, I think the real bug is that the os version was always inaccurate or the firmware was corrupt. I also had your exact issues but they were fixed with the latest updates. I really think your op-xy had a corrupt firmware or was showing you the wrong version and I agree with @Tarekith - update the firmware again to the latest with a fresh download from their site. It’s just a few minute process and worth a shot before you throw it in the ocean out of frustration

Use name mangler on Mac to get rid of incompatible characters in file names (they are listed on the read me file on the OP-XY internal storage), keep it under 14 characters per file name, and use 16-bit 44.1hz samples and you’re golden. Keep your file transfer under 4GB each time as well, a limitation of FAT.

Yeah I guess I’m going to go back to my original point that if you have to jump through so many hoops to get samples on in 2025 then the problem lies with the manufacturer and the design and not the user.

I’ll try all this stuff but wow what a major pain in the ass

I feel your pain, I sent back my first OP-XY for a refund when it was first released since it was so buggy and crashed all the time. Hopefully once you get the OS updated properly it’ll be a lot smoother sailing for you, it’s been fine here with my second XY since the last couple of updates.

Good luck!

Not saying you’re wrong as things are clearly not working for you right now and I’d probably send it back if the same happened to me. But I recently bought a B-Stock with the latest firmware on it and had zero issues dropping samples into folders with my Mac and the field kit. I just grabbed the samples made on my DT and dragged them over, done. I had to do none of the steps mentioned here.

Maybe I was lucky, but I’m optimistic your experience shouldn’t be what to expect when buying a new XY nowadays. And trust me, coming from the Bento, I know what a buggy sampler looks like, XY seems like the opposite to me so far.

the issue´s seem to be very inconsistent, which is probably why its so hard to track down the root cause. Nonetheless annoying as fuck.

I think we can all agree that the Quality Control on the OPXY has been very, very poor for a premium product, especially at launch. Personally I don t have too many issues now, but I am not exactly a power user. My OP-1F has no real issues other than lack of updates, probably as all coding time dedicated to fixing the XY!

alright i was FINALLY able to get samples onto my OPXY and i uploaded a fuckload and made a jam / track that I’m super happy with super fast and i think this just became a desert island piece for me. it already felt that way a bit but now it’s certain. wow!

thanks to everyone who provided tips on the sample stuff

I have no problem getting samples onto my XY, I can just never FIND them given the ridiculous lack of folder structure.

What ended up being the fix?

I am honestly unsure but I reinstalled the OS and also made sure all samples were 16/44.1

It’s a shame, there’s so many preset packs I want to buy from some of my favorite sound designers, but not when all the samples end up in the root directory.

i would love to know what preset packs you would buy!

Big fan of the Rephrazor and Colors In Space stuff.
