Teenage Engineering OP-XY

You have to shake the opxy to reset the memory. It uses the built-in gyroscope.

Thanks… is this in the manual? Or is it an Easter Egg? I find it funny but not really

Don’t shake it…

He is trolling you. It’s possibly the voice allocation bug. If you go to the config settings change the voices from auto to “3” on each track and if that solves it, please report the bug to TE. If that doesn’t solve it, try updating firmware, factory reset, etc. If it seems like a bigger problem I’d get a refund if you’re in a return window as that doesn’t sound normal.

I have noticed this same issue to a much lesser extent with my mpc SE, which is a completely different product of course… but I do feel like loading projects instead of starting fresh somehow makes it where it is starting with less resources… I don’t know how or why, bit maybe it is a problem with these newer music boxes? I thought I was going crazy, but that is kind of like what I feel too with Akai. Idk…

Thank you

Check your master chain (Volume/eq/compression/distortion settings) since this could make a big difference in the overall sound.

The CPU icon showing up white is pretty normal, almost all of my songs will eventually get it as I start using up available voices. If it shows up red or you start hearing drop outs like you describe it just means the set is too complex and the CPU can’t keep up anymore. I personally don;t notice this happening any more often after loading a bunch of sets in a row, something I was just doing last night even.

Is there a particular demo song you’re seeing this with? Let us know and maybe someone else can test on their device for you.

All I can contribute is a comparison of someone who recently got 1010 Music’s Bento, sent that one back and replaced it with an XY. The XY seems like a well thought out instrument that has not once yet stopped me because of a bug. It might have its own way of doing some things which might enable or slow you down, depending on personal preferences. But it seems like a mature and powerful groovebox that allows you to make music fast and have fun without getting in your way. I really appreciate that coming off the Bento, which stopped me with annoying bugs almost every time I used it and makes you feel like a bug tester. It sounds feature rich and promising, but did stop me within minutes each time I tried to make music with it. I haven’t explored much of XY yet, so take it with a grain of salt, but on the spectrum of unfinished hardware that’s out there right now, the XY seems pretty stable and mature to me.

Bento was so bad. I bought and returned as well.

About the sample import issue you had. You probably didn’t have the opxy on the latest firmware and possibly your Mac needs to be updated. I never really had any issues with the importing of samples… unless the file names had some characters it doesn’t support which is stated in the manual

Same here, never had any problem with Field Kit. It works as it should be.

Great Jam. sounds fkin nuts

yea I’ve had no issues with sample import in recent times either. it only allows 1 folder deep in hierarchy tho. if you’ve 1 too many sub folders it’ll throw an error. pain in the arse but something to be aware of.

i was only copying to the root user folder

Read the manual and update your Mac and the OP-XY firmware. 99% of the complaining people about Field Kit crashing is user error.

The filename convention is very specific, read the manual about this.

user error or not for the price this thing costs they should be able to design a proper app that works easily and is easy to understand. elektron can do it with transfer and so can TE

Great review, nice to see it getting bashed about with the distortion! I was uploading samples with some of the amazing third party preset generators people have made yesterday and have to say I was amazed at how fast and easy it was.
