Teenage Engineering OP-XY

Syncing with other gear works nicely in my experience, but there’s no direct function to export stems from the OP-XY.

When that happens, this will be a real gift for me.

Sorry to quote you but I’m not sure who else is better suited for a question about the sampler engines of both the Op-Xy & Op-1 Field. Can you hear any noticeable differences between both sampler engines? I get the feeling the Op1-field sounds “higher quality” for lack of a better term, but it might just be me?

I thought the same to be honest, but when testing them side by side I couldn’t tell the difference between the (single) sample engines in quality or aliasing. Both are of the same high quality if you ask me.

I have to say the presets on XY are pretty good. I might be back to being a preset surfer and make some clips fast. Only speaking about the melodic side here, but I hear the drum samples are also pretty good. I like each bass patch, the strings are great and there’s even a marimba in there!

Been out of the loop with the OP-XY for a few months.

How are the firmwares coming along? Is it now stable? Is everything pretty much implemented now?

To my ears I feel like there’s an eq on the over all sound of the xy. Everything that comes out of it sounds a little more ‘contained’ than what I’m used to. Could just be me but wonder if anyone else feels the same? Does op1f sound similar?

I’ve gone off my XY over the last few months. I just find too many little glitches and holdups when I want to just make music, from sampling, to arranging, to managing the mixer, to the sometimes-yes-sometimes-no MIDI, and so on.

While its abilities are way better than the OP-Z, I found the OP-Z to be a lot more fluid. These days I’m almost all-in on the M8, which should be a perfect partner for the XY, but somehow is not.

I’m keeping it, waiting for the promised big firmware update, and using it as the world’s most expensive keyboard for the M8, but I feel it promises a lot more and it makes me sad that it doesn’t reach that promise.

Besides the auto voice allocation (bug?) I can’t say I’ve had any of these issues. Ever since I manually changed my voice allocation it’s been smooth for me. I just put voice allocation to 3 for every track

Both the OP-XY and OP-1F have a pretty aggressive (and imho really good-sounding) compressor on the entire mix. You can control that in the mixer settings.

where’s the voice allocation located? I was searching for it the other day n could only find the poly/mono/legato bit. I’ve totally overlooked somewhere but I can’t figure it out

yeah i was thinking that…

think i will get the Oxi One MK2 instead, more useful and developed

In the project settings

ahhh

nice oneee

Currently, I am only aware of two bugs: the voice allocation issue mentioned previously, and the problem not playing the first note correctly during step recording when a player (maestro or arp) is involved.

Overall, the OP-XY is a pleasure to work with. However, it could still benefit from some quality of life improvements in certain areas.

There are a few bugs with the brain track right now but I reported them and it sounds like they are aware. One it doesnt work on the midi or CV track it does work on the first 8 tracks so you can assign them to midi and at least have brain applied to external synths that way. Second is when you target a specific track with brain it now triggers that track with the brain sequencer which it didn’t used to do in all previous updates, I think it is like applying multiple shifts to those notes also so they don’t end up sounding in key

Sampler is also buggy as periodically missing the beginning and end of the sample and somehow mixing up sample buffers. It’s annoying and the device has to be restarted to make the sampler work again properly.

I’ve not run into this yet… I did notice that the LFO tracks stay the same even when loading in a new instrument template sometimes it is assigned to start point… especially confusing when it is the elements lfo that is effected by the mic or tilt or something wacky where you don’t realize it’s on and this change when you turn up the volume or shift positions.

Yeah this is my biggest bug at the moment too. Makes impromptu sampling sessions with the built in mic a no go for me.

Testing my new investment ( that is ) and I immediately bumped on something that I hope is a bug…

I’m loading demos just to enjoy the whole set made with this beauty BUT I start noticing that after say 4 or 5 Song loaded up the CPU icon is blinking and on a specific track ( but did not test it back at least in that order ) the play start stuttering, is that a normal behave? Like when you load a new Song the memory is not reset or emptied?
