OP-1 Field although recent has got in updates: (off the top of my head)
- Velocity added to keyboard
- USB-C audio output (to a connected soundcard/interface, it only had input before. Worked to computer already, but plugging in a 2in2out audio interface with midi ports is now possible)
- Vocoder! An excellent vocoder, very intelligible. Also lets you bypass it and record to tape with an insert effect. Quick track I made with Vocoder and some of Rephazer’s sounds
- Terminal, a bit crusher type effect with a Commodore PET themed interface. (did a video showing that)
- Mixdrop - massive game changer allowing in place mixdown/bounce drop and merge of all tracks between the markers, did a quick video on that too.
- Unlimited length lift/drop - you see in OP-1 parlance, Lift is basically like CUT to clipboard on the computer. You can lift a slice of audio from tape of a single track, or all tracks between the markers, Drop it somewhere else (PASTE from clipboard) either on the tape, multiple times to repeat out a section if you like, or into the sampler. However, on OP-1, and OP-1 Field at launch, there was a set buffer time limit - 90 seconds for a single track or just 22 seconds for all four tracks. So if you had a 30 second tape selection you want to duplicate, you can’t. You’d have to chop into smaller pieces and do it in multiple passes. They fixed this on OP-1 Field, and while for longer sections the processing time gets progressively slower, there is no limit now. This happened in an update.
And lots and lots of bug fixes and little updates and improvements. The above is only on the Field in the short time it’s been out. I never had an OP-1 from launch, and that got some great updates over the years, USB audio to/from a computer was the most amazing and unexpected update on a then ancient device at the time.

Thanks. I don’t necessarily think that they are money grubbers or that they disrespect their users but some sort of statement from TE about why the price ended up so high would dispel those thoughts altogether. I watched an interview with the founder a while back and he seemed like a sympathetic guy so I’m not suspicious of his character as such.
Yeah I’ve had the op1 for years and now have op1f but I’ve always been more into the sequencing workflow so the op-xy will be a game changer for me. I’ll definitely be switching between both depending on my creative moods.

The bass sound at 2:40 sounds exactly like the bases I used to make on the Pulsar which I haven’t been able to recreate anywhere.

The price is not the issue. We just don‘t make enough money.
Groceries are so expensive in relation to income right now - I mean, if i don‘t eat anything for a few weeks I can easily afford this thing. Why not get an OPoXY in exchange for 20% less body fat?

I wonder how fast TE is with shipping them out, placed an order yesterday, It says 4-5 days but I’m not sure that’s the case right now.
I’m moving away from the romantic idea of a single jack of all trade portable device that almost automatically makes music for me.
Instead in the last years I’ve bought stuff (vintage or modern) based on what I think it does best than anything else as an instrument or effect or microphone etc.
I love having different instruments each with a specific purpose, and I’m NOT talking about expensive synth stuff like “Minimoog for bass, Jupiter 8 for pads etc.” But more alike “one analog synth that does the analog synth, an OP-1 that does the OP-1, a bass guitar, a guitar, pedals, electric piano, tape recorder, cassettes etc.”
I also moved away from sequencers, now I prefer manipulating audio or recording to a DAW or multitrack cassette unquantized.
That’s probably why I’m not so into the XY, even with the high pricetag if it was released 4/5 years ago I would have sold everything to get it!

We should just make a tally sheet for that argument. And on the other side a tally sheet for: Behringer is too cheap. This cannibalizes necessary profits of boutique manufacturers who really invent and innovate.

It’s also curious that, even though the original Guitar Centre listing labelled the XY as a ‘field’ device, I don’t think that’s confirmed or present anywhere in the technical material. So the jury is out on whether this thing connects digitally with the other field system units. That possibility is not documented in the manual, but it possibly comes in a future update. Is that confirmed?

Ok, that’s a bummer…workflow looks super fast otherwise. Is it possible to set the note length by holding a step, tapping bar, and pressing a step in the next bar?
