(The OP-1 had more of a one knob one function approach. (Sadly also shift function instead of sticky Alt-key or just cycle through pages by repeated key stroke). )

yeah, i wonder if the XY has a big margin, or is just a crazy risk based on a vision - same for OP1f.
for TE (and all small companies like this) it must be much easier for them to deal with a small buyer base so they don’t have to get overwhelmed with customer support that they can’t deal with.
i imagine when you have QC problems like the OPZ or the model samples/cycles battery handle debacle with elektron it must be devastating for these companies. and making highest end stuff is a smart strategy to avoid that - because you’re using top materials so less things go wrong, and you have less customers to deal with when something does go wrong.
it might be that the OP-Z QC catastrophe taught TE that they need to go with high end in order to survive, because they clearly weren’t able to deal with the QC issues when it happened.
You couldnt be embarrassed if you were the only person alive. So you do care what other people think.
That’s an angle I haven’t thought about, it could be one part of their strategy as well.
And also I just think they love doing stuff without any restraints and the economics of that can be devastating.
The truth is if TE sell almost all of the first batch (which I guess they will to their target market), then it was near perfectly priced.
A cake shop with a queue around the corner every day and sending customers away is mispricing - its product is too cheap.

Expensive well designed tools: With disappointments with incomplete design like L-6 and buying several cheaper but incomplete things, I really appreciate the TX-6 approach and functionality. Will have to sell some things for it, though.
I also love the OP-1 OG destructive workflow and narrowing options.
Every hobby is about happy hours. TE really delivers in that regard.
However, I am glad that GAS didn’t kick in with OP-XY.

haha, that’s a good point - when i hear a dentist say “i can’t afford the XY” i’m like pffff, you don’t even know what that means (unless he has a gambling addiction…)! you’ll have one in two months.
it’s wild though how this hobby has some quasi hobos figuring out ways to buy this stuff, together with the dentists. i meet all these different people when i buy and sell gear around town.

for an accurate clone you just need two OP-1s and one OP-Z, ideally a raspberry pi for midi sync & power.
one can act as drums the other as synths and the Z for sequencing + Organ & EP Engine

For me that’s the OP-1 Field. But it depends on your work flow. I can record longer audio to tape, such as sounds out in the world, chop them up, make kits, layer them, record sounds to tape and layers to tape, chop that up and make samples. Record a bunch of different synth sounds and samples in tern playing the note C on the tape, layered, to create a thick texture, lift and drop that into the sampler and play it chromatically. The little sequencers in the OP-1 are super basic, but help you get ideas locked into time, and experiment. The OP-XY on the other hand has full detailed step sequencing and a lot of flexibility that way, but for me I’d miss so much that I love about the OP-1 Field.
But I am fully aware OP-XY may be the better product for many people. Pretty personal choice, and depends how you work. For example the OP-1 Field you can record long form audio to tracks and layer them, vocals, guitars, found sounds. I made a 6 minute spooky sounds loop with the kids to play in the garden at halloween. Would’ve been very different outcome if everything had to be samples, sequenced.
I understand what you mean. I felt the same (not really embarrassed but the feeling that I’m hoping no one is looking at what I’m doing because it probably looks weird) when I had my Syntakt on the plane during my last trip. However I would probably feel less like this with the OP-XY since it’s smaller so lm all for it in this sense 
I’m far more interested in D.A.F. than the OP-XY, given that I’ve been listening to the former for 30-odd years and have nothing made by Teenage Engineering, nor am I particularly likely to.

No, I don’t think the Ui can implement that either. Because M2 is populated by tape loop routing.
