I think boredom stems from what you expect out of a device and I don’t expect much. I have other devices for mangling and sound design. This would be the device where I can easily record long stems of vocal/piano/guitar and also synth noodles and looping experiments.
The fun stuff happens elsewhere

When I got my Blackbox in 2020, I got frustrated pretty fast with it: it would not do what I’d asked it to, it was also quirky and it was limited. After one year of shelf time, I decided to give it another go. This time, I started embracing its limits and to work around them every day, only to suddenly realize that it had been me all along. I haven’t stopped writing songs with Blackbox ever since.

The following is off topic. Do not read.
Summary
My solution to sticky stuff. I wanted to stick my Octatrack and various other pieces of hardware to a guitar pedalboard. You know, the carpeted kind. So velcro. But velcro had been making a disgusting mess of my guitar pedals for years (no biggie, I made most of them myself) and I sure didn’t want that to happen to my Octa, LXR-02, Blackbox, and RMX-1000. What I did was take some nice, quality painter’s tape and stick it to the bottom of those devices where I meant to stick the velcro. Then I applied the velcro to the tape. Worked perfectly. After a year and a half I removed the tape from the Octa and LXR and presto, it’s like it was never there. Also did my Syntakt for more than a year and guess what happened. Nothing. Looks like it never went near a roll of Frogtape (that’s the brand I have on hand but any nice painter’s tape will do).
Now I’ll be the first to admit that I’m probably not anybody’s definition of a Serious Adhesives Genius but I might venture to say this real life experience that I’ve managed to gain by really doing the thing I’m talking about has to count for something?

why not using the blackbox?
Blackbox is certainly an option which I’ve debated in the past but I’ve always just tried to stick with OT instead and honestly I still might…
I’ve owned blackbox once and I loved using the granular engine as means for time stretching vocals and it did that REALLY well. But I got so annoyed that it it spazzed out when using more then two granular engines at the same time that I sold it.
I was thinking that the Tangerine is essentially a tiny recorder, although it can only record one stererotrack at a time.
Apart from the 32-bit float (and being 2-times more expensive and not working well with microphones) this device could easily take on the zoom R4 and giving you the option to more or less finish the track on the device it self.

On that note, it’s worth mentioning that the tangerine can start recording on cue, and also quantize recording for perfect loops and takes.
I use the blackbox much in this way, and of course the bluebox does this flawlessly but in six track stereo input.
But yes, the tangerine can be compared to an eight track stereo recorder if you will, where each track is its own reel that starts and stops independently of the others, and has its own pitch, filter and fx slot.

Just out of curiosity (as I’m hoping to nab one of these), does anyone know if the “SOLD OUT” indicated on the 1010 website is simply a “this isn’t for sale yet” placeholder, or were some for sale and they’re now gone?

Correct. (Mid Nov). I suspect that the inventory system wired to our web site doesn’t have a. It for “New shipping soon” and treats that just like any other stocking state. Hmm…
