Tangerine from 1010 Music

there is no extra headphone output, just one stereo output altogether

What’s the main advantage of this for sampling over the razz?

Streaming. No limit looping. Eight slots instead of one for streamed / looped / time-stretched samples. More flexible envelope. Toggle / trigger / gate mode for all eight slots. Free running clip launching for all
eight slots outside sequencing. Trimming. Sample start and end points. Loop start and end points.

And maybe more but let’s start there

Curious is there manual slice and auto slice functions onboards? Also is there auto input assign midi detection for parameters? Thanks!

I wished this as well, but for my own very specific reasons (one output for stereo loops, another one for a looper slot, going to another channel of a dj mixer for transitions)

There’s auto slice after a grid where you can decide the grid size and then adjust slices manually, and you got midi learn as well. If that helps :slightly_smiling_face:

Man that’s pretty cool to hear. You can get yourself one of those Moukey 8 input mixers and effectively not have to stop recording to switch inputs. Just use like a looper, adding one new part as you go.

That’s where Blackbox would fit in: 3+1 stereo outputs.

I don’t get it. How is this any better than blackbox? I just got a blackbox mint used a fair amount cheaper than this. Should’ve I’ve paid more tor this instead?

I can’t find much that it can do but blackbox can’t…

well, kind of
for what I’ve read, BB’s looper isn’t so straight forward as in Tangerine’s, but I sort of agree

how is BB’s looper different from Tangerine’s?

Multisampled instruments all the way ! It fits this purpose extremely well !
Blackbox cannot handle more that 60 something samples per pad and 80 something per project and that is only theorical…

With the tangerine you could handle 500 samples…So you could have 1 almost perfect grand piano, some horns, an ob bass and whatever you can imagine, multisampled, at the same time…
Along a looper and some sliced, beats and a couple of one shots ?
I’m selling my BB to get this one…

None of any sampler I can think of provides the same multisample power… Of course if multisampled instruments is not what you use the most, I couldn’t see an interest vs the BB.

presumably one pad could be a 16 notes of polyphonic drum kit with 3 layers of velocity … and leave plenty of space for the other 7 pads for whatever else you need

Preorder ?

This one has quite some options. I’m in the market for a quick sampler (with extras), right now it’s between this and the SP-404 mk2.
Curious for more reviews.

Sp404 more fun if you ask me

I just realised the same today.
Tangerine seems very usefull, would be a more rational choice, more inputs brings something new for me, autosampling in hardware is new to me and the sound seems more pristine.
SP404 is more creative, exciting, because I see it as a big melting pot for collecting sounds and throwing them together which gives a different outcome than my other stuff.
I have the MC707 and that is a clear sounding, functional, machine for setting up songs so the SP404 would not need to be that for me.
Anyway; the Nanobox Tangerine is an interesting box to keep an eye on.

Interesting to compare with the BlackBox too.

Tangerine has the upper hand with multi samples and as a tiny custom 8 set ā€˜sample rompler’.

However the BlackBox is worth a look too, if you aren’t in need so much of the multi sample spec of the Tangerine, it has a lot to offer.

For sure. Blackbox is a bit more expensive though, 200 euro above SP404. I know it offers more functionality when it comes to building tracks, but that is not my main goal.
I want easy (stereo and long) sampling plus some extras, under 500 euro. So the Tangerine or 404 it will be.

For me the more fiddly is the interface and the less fun is the device to use
