Syntakt Science Lab #5: CP Vintage

Welcome to Syntakt Science Lab #5 !

The topic of this SSL is to explore the CP Vintage machine. It’s not the most flexible machine, but I think we’ll have fun with this one too. There are actually two parallell sound generators in there, which might make for some fun p-locking and LFO’ing.

I chose to start with CP Vintage because I thought it would be the hardest of the two new labs, but it was a ton of fun!
I should be starting dinner, but instead I started cramming in this pattern while I was thinking about it.

This pattern is seven tracks of CP vintage with the first track comprising the kick and snare sound. The FX track is ducking the amplifier with some Euclidian rhythm excluding the first track to fake some compression.
Everything else is routed through the FX with the drive parameter at maximum. Each track is at varying degrees of overdrive on the SYN page. Anything that is tonal has either a high pass or low pass filter with 100% tracking on it.

That crunchy chirp sound that joins third has an LFO on the BODY parameter.

It really is rough and came together very fast. I mostly randomized the synth parameters to start with by holding SYN and tapping YES. Sounds like the bass I changed the amplifier mode to ADSR.

Time to cook some real food and not just beats!

Let me remind that CP Vintage has the “Ratchet” feature :slightly_smiling_face:

I usually read these, get excited, and throw a thing together.
If I don’t just go for it right away I’ll sit on it too long!
Thanks guys.

This is mostly a rehash of my Guiro sound that I made at one point for some ‘latin percussion’ sounds. The Clap makes a pretty good hat as well though

That’s a damn good guiro :sunglasses:

Another fun one I think!

I still need to listen to what’s posted, so I’ll circle back soon.

Clap is WILD

Wild for sure! I feel I’ve underestimated this machine  It’s not too easy to harness, but it has some unique sounds for sure. Nice for snares and hihats, but I’m not there yet on the kicks and basses. Lots more to discover!

Here are three odd sketches.
First one, a simple arpeggio with some sparse beats.

Some oddball clockwork techno attempt. Very short delay creating a tonal effect.

Back to an arpeggiated pattern and a slow electro-style beat. Increasing use of FX track processing throughout.

I managed to get super deep kick by adjusting the envelope hold to note duration and then reducing the SPCR. So basically the ratcheting setting, but without the rarchets. Drop the tuning, add pitch envelope and add some dust with the balance parameter. Adding high pass with res will make it booming

Nice tip, will check it out!

Really like the 3rd one, the melody and tone, also the hats sound great here

I like the ‘ice on ice’ sound in the second one.

Oh yeah that third pattern is my favorite too.
Like little FM ish chirps in a way.
The BODY parameter really does do some macro changes to the tone.
I forgot to mention I had an LFO on the body of a sound in my submission!

Clap wub

7 tracks of clap

Inspiration came from this massive sustained kick sound I found yesterday. I’m happy with the way silence plays its role in this one.

I will post the project file with the rest of my “entries”
