I’ve paused my GAS for the xt for now but I’m going to be keeping my eye on it - for the price it’s a cracking bit of kit and it’s a great ‘ticks many boxes device’.
Keeping my fingers crossed they add the ability to sample in stereo (whilst sacrificing poly or time) as that would make it pretty unstoppable.
if they made it stereo it would absolutely wreck the digitakt ii IMO. speaking of ‘ticking many boxes’ I’ve actually really wanted to see more Bad Gear takes on sonicware stuff because I like his videos better than loopop’s or whatever on the good, bad, and ugly of synths, but I think they’re not well embedded in the synth YouTube sphere of influence for whatever reason. It would be fun to see what he would do with a 12XT though, since he’s such a digitakt dude, and I imagine we’d see some pretty top tier CyDrums work.
Hey guys, got this sampler today, when I sample something in, the first ~2 seconds of the sound are silenced. I can see the waveform but it’s a bit darker than the rest and I don’t hear anything. Someone knows why?
Edit: nevermind the sample playback start was not set to the beginning of the sample, thought it would be at 0 when I sample sth in
Interesting with the asr-10 reference. How does the Lofi-13 xt handle looping and general loop synthesis? is there a bi-directional loop option akin to the ASR-10 and asr style loop postion modulation?
Just got a great price on one of these little bad boys
Not sure if it’ll be a keeper as I do like recording freeform on an SP, but I’m hoping I’ll have fun with it as I miss my DT and feel like this is a bit of a weird hybrid of the two…
mixtape mode is great, also the stutter sequencer and d-pad roller for your drum parts. The effects can sound good but they have a lot of sweep available so require a lot of finesse to do so, vs elektron’s “good most of the way up the dial” approach. random sequencer in groups of full or half bars is also really nice on drum parts or arpeggios. Use the “convert” capabilities to just let the machine deal with folders of samples from elsewhere.
Step details come from func+step where you can change micro timing, roll, note, etc.
Apologies if this has been covered but I can’t find any info on it (here or elsewhere), might be using the wrong words to search for it.
But when plocking on the lofi12xt it unselects the step, a minor thing but a small annoyance. Is there any way to not deselect the step when pressing it to do a plock? Maybe this is just one of those expectations you gain as a privileged elektron user
Otherwise I’m starting to get the hang of the basic workflow and for what I paid for it it’s a powerful little box!
I don’t think it deselects the step, at least not in my experience. It works exactly like on elektron, you hold the trigger down and adjust the parameter you want to lock. Is that not working for you?
Hm, nope, seems it should work that way but definitely wasn’t for me, as soon as I ‘released’ the step would deselect. Will have another play and see what’s going on.
I was burned pretty bad by losing 2 hours of work on the machine as I had saved the project but not the pattern. A mistake I’ll only make once but coming from most recently using an SP404mkII where I don’t need to save at all it was quite the kick in the nuts.
Edit: ok that’s weird, just tried now and it’s working as I’d expect (the shift-select option is a nice addition too for scrolling through parameters). No idea why it was behaving the way it was previously but glad to see it wasn’t normal!
I think it deselects the step if you press it only if you have record button on. Also quick way to erase p-lock is to hold “CLR” and press the parameter button you want to clear, in case you’re not aware of this yet.
Ah I bet that was it! I only learnt about the ‘hold pad and hit step’ method of programming a sequence yesterday so that might have been the difference I probably had record on.
There is a lot to like about this overweight Gameboy.
It is indeed! I didn’t quite get it at first it kinda felt like digitakt but the other way round lol. It grew on me fast tho and became one of my favourite samplers.
The device being polyphonic, it can act as very nice synth with a lot of character when using single cycle waveforms or sculpting a pad sample. The “SY” factory samples are neat !
Think vintage pcm sounds
Chiming in here for a couple of user questions.
I understand the Lofi can sequence external devices. How much polyphony per track ?
Also, admit you sequence an external synth with the Lofi, can you feed back the synth’s audio in the Lofi and stream it inreal time while playing the Lofi’s internal tracks, acting as a mixer ? In reference, like the Novation Circuit Tracks ?
My project would be to have a compact 3 device rig, the Lofi as center of a setup, using two of its tracks to sequence 2 expanders, and feeding back their audio so the Lofi acts as mixer as well.
Thanks !
Can you elaborate ? I don’t quite understand…
If you plug one synth in each input, for instance a Moog Grandmother in input left, and a Korg Monologue input right, what happens? Can you sequence the two synths with the Sonicware, can you play the other tracks internally, while hearing the two sequenced synths.
I’m not talking about sampling the synths, just using the Sonicware as a sequencer/ mixer.
I can’t find information if this is possible.
