you’re kidding right, you know I was probably the first person to buy your app back in the day
I’m really looking forward to giving this a go. Not having trig preview was the biggest pain point for me. And I think having that 16th slice will actually go a long way
Tried out the new and improved mixtape mode by running a mix from my bento through the master effects and tape I emulation with no 12xt sounds at all, worked great to tame the harsh highs a bit and smooth the mix out.
will you be making some more videos about it?
No I wasn’t ironic. Thanks for supporting my work. Yeah I of course know your username from audiobus forum.
Probably not any time soon
well if you come up with any special midi tricks please share them, you have a way of making that kind of stuff palatable
This is my favorite portable device. Had it a few times and will probably get one again. Just nice to play with the pads, quantized and unquantized recording. Like making music more with this than the M8 or tracker mini, which are both too much like programming to me. If there were a couple synth engines in there, it would be perfect for me…I’m not a 100% sample guy.
Yeah, I felt the same when I had mine.
I used the iPhone via cable as a synth. I was sending midi from the pads, and resampled the loop. Nice workflow.
Hey, Anyone know if it’s possible to “grid-slice” in like 4-8-16 divisions on it?
Yes.
Have found myself compelled to pick up an SP-202, which has itself rekindled my interest in a lofi 12 xt.
If what I care about most is the grittiness and unique sonic character of the 202 would I be dissapointed in the lofi 12? Obviously it’s 12 bit and can use lower sample rates but does it have that mojo?
Anyone that’s familiar with both I’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’m probably less concerned with the actual functionality as I want one mostly for the audio processing, but if the lofi12 can sound the same then I certainly wouldn’t mind having an extra (usable) sampler.
You also got the lo-fi 12 if you just want the sound, remind me of the 202 but not as dope for the drum like the SP but got more options
I eneded up biting on the bullet on the SP-202 - it was a good deal and in mint condition so I can always sell it later without losing any money.
The Lofi 12 XT is a very appealing package though - I’m still tempted to give it a try… the lack of stereo sampling is a shame though I wonder if that will come one day - even the 202 can sample in stereo ![]()
I think the SmplTrek does stereo sampling but the 12xt trades that functionality for a lot of other niceties. It’s better to think of it like a really fun digitakt mk1 with polyphony and arp and pads. That said, if they maxed the sample length to 30s instead of 60s and let you go stereo I sure would be happy as well. It’s the most immediate and fun sampler I own.
I wouldn’t personally use it as an fx box because you really only get one master effect and reverb/delay sends. The x0x samplers are much better for that and also have more performance effects, though the new performance effects they ported from cydrums are really cool.
One positive though is that mixtape actually captures 48k stereo of the master mix so you can sequence stereo synths with it and have them still in the mix and it is a fun sequencer to play. I do wish the ratchet pads worked on the active track all the time like the syntakt retrigger macros but the stutter sequencer mode does this effect if you want at the expense of losing the random step group jumps.
I can’t say about 202 sound vs this but I think it sounds great. 12k mode definitely gives a nice aliased crunch (especially with 12 bit sampling) but 24k/16 bit modes sound quite nice when you don’t want the lofi thing, them together with mixtape cassette emulation gives you a pretty good mastered sound straight to a wav file which is such a great feature.
Had the Kickstarter edition, sold it, and now they issued the 1.5 update which kinda fixed all my gripes.
Got one from Thomann today… let’s hope this time it sticks.
Just picked one up recently. Great little device.
Long term MPC user and have owned most other samplers too. This one is more fun than many and a new favourite. Very well designed UI, easy to use, sounds good, great new firmware update just dropped and I really like the retro colour scheme too.

The SP’s are more about processing audio and the XT is more about sequencing audio. Actually they work really well together. Audio can be sampled into the XT at 12-bit to add some grittiness and firmware 1.5 added more audio processing features like being able run external audio through the Mixtape presets for more “lofi” texture.
I always tell people that the Lofi-12 XT is kinda like a cross between an ASR-10 and a Digitakt, but with a mono 24khz sound engine. Although stereo width can be added with delay, reverb and panning.
Interesting you should mention that as I was just saying to one of the Sonicware team that something about it clicked for me in a way that reminded me of my early days with Ensoniq samplers.

I’ve been wanting a vintage sampler, an Ensoniq is definitely on my list. I was very torn between a MPC 1000 and the XT. I still want something vintage, but I’m glad I picked up the XT. For my hobbyist needs, it really ticks all the boxes, especially after the new update.
If there was ever a sampling curriculum for a music program, the XT would be my choice or maybe Koala.
