S-1 with Nurad wind controller - I think

Akai EWI5000 and ARTinoise Lunatica as well, from the captions. This isn’t really an S-1 video! But thanks for posting it.

That was jazzy as heck. Cool to hear all that expression played that way.

You know you have a winner when even Mr Bad Gear gets offended by the hate.

It was a bit of a pointless Bad Gear as he basically said it was the best thing Roland have done for about 20 years.

Edit 33 years!

he reviews any gear anyway. Otherwise the channel already had died off

Is there a way to edit the micro-timing of each step besides playing in real time?

Kinda, but not really. There are the “sub steps” which allow you to divide a step into parts to make ratcheted or offset notes, but you only have a limited set of step divisions to choose from. There are 14 sub step options and only two of them are single offset notes.

Isn’t this the exact same sound engine of SH-01A?

the whole channel is pointless. even he cant figure out if he’s trying to be meta-ironic or just clickbait, let alone his fans

the “hate” examples he posts are always the most irrelevant points: “the 80s display is a joke for 200$”(sic)

i dont think we should be placing any significance on criticism of people who dont know where the dollar sign goes

“too many parameters” “not enough parameters” “sounds thin like a vsti” -from the same people who undoubtedly praise the hydrasynth for sounding analog

i am perplexed by any hate at all for this synth. it sounds way better than it should. ive been trying to get these types of sounds out of analog and digital synths for years but never owned anything roland. so when i finally got this, i was blown away. sounds unbelievably good to me and super versatile. it can do all the rubbery plucks, super glassy dx7 style sounds, juno pads, huge brassy analog sounds, crazy hard synced prophet style sounds. i love it

I’m hit and miss with that guy but that review is fun. It sold me on the device, anyway. Also he’s got my favorite Don DeLillo on the shelf, never noticed that before

I am a Roland fan and IMHO Roland products do sound great. I use the TR8s, SP404mk2, and Roland Cloud and I plan on picking up the S-1.

About the only thing that would be legitimate criticism about the S-1, and indeed all “Rolcas”, is the display. They could have used something that supported more than three confusing “letters” without introducing much additional cost.

A groovebox reimagination of this form factor would be fun. That is, something like four of these S-1s in one, four tracks.

it would be nice. i just find the qualifier “for a $200 synth” to be a little egregious

Hey, that’s four confusing “letters”, makes all the difference

You are a fan of Roland Cloud? I’m trying to imagine this and failing

LOL at the anonymous internet dickheads.

It’s just a fun show with cool jams, you shouldn’t take it too seriously. Even Florian was doubtful about the S-1 “hate” at the end of the episode (which I think was a cool twist at the “haters”

Anyway, I like that he started including good gear, because the show is actually pretty informative and impartial (IMO), which I’m not so sure about some of the more serious channels.
