Roland P6 Aira Compact sampler

Yeah, I think he was mistaken in that video, which is why he was having trouble recording mutes.

Was just watching that actually lol.

Also, only the 4 knobs above the sample section can be recorded, even tho pitch env and filter have some parameters on the ctrl 1,2,3 knobs.

So that was throwing him off as well.

It sounds really good though. I’m happy about that.

Ive been reading the manual like a bible since they announce this thing.

In my mind Ive already made like 30 beats and have all the shortcuts memorized :upside_down_face:

Fuck yeah. Not sweatin that at all anymore.

That imlowkey video has that tip about using the lofi button to add back in some high end crunch if needed

Yeah, I’ve read it a couple of times as well. Haha. HTML and PDF bookmarked on my phone.

Granular is still a mystery to me, but that’s kind of exciting.

Granular synth pad is totally extra to me.

I’ll mess around with it, but drones aren’t really my cup of tea. But maybe I can get something interesting by using it in an unintended fashion or make some pad sounds at least.

just realized that the sequencer has to be stopped in order to save a pattern, but I can’t find any info about this in the manual. When hitting Write during playback “Stop” comes up and my dumbass didn’t realize they changed it up from the S-1, so I lost a bunch of stuff already when powering it off :frowning:

Thanks for sharing then.

Gonna be another few weeks before these pitch up in Europe? Probably will take my chances and wait until they’re actually in stock before springing for one - have pretty much made my peace with the fact that I’m all in on this.

Guess that must be the first wave of pre-orders, site currently says “In stock within 5-7 weeks” for me. Thinking I’ll probably try to grab this one from one of the local bricks and mortars anyway, might even end up being as quick as joining the queue with one of the big online sellers.

Yes I bought it a week or so ago and checked with them yesterday. Think they have another hit on their hands…

the 2nd worst thing I’ve ever heard about South Africa… also what if when we die there are two places we could go to, one place has samplers and the other place doesn’t :grimacing: yikes!

Seems like a ton of enthusiasm here. I’ve tried to skim through the nearly 700 (!) messages to get a sense of what features folks are jazzed about.

Is it the combination of portability / polyphony / price that are the main selling points?

Yes to all that. For me, also the rechargeable battery and the modes of sampling (onboard mic, audio inputs, or resampling). Providing different sampling rates and good basic sample editing is also a plus.

I think some people are very drawn to the granular features, which I’m happy about but haven’t dug into yet.

It’s definitely a sum of the parts making the whole really nice. Factor in the price and that samplers are fun, it’s easy to not knock it for sample memory ( it’s got tons) or whatever other small criticism may arise. It’s a game boy sampler without being weird like an M8.

What’s tempting me is that it’s got a really appealing combination of being an old school instrument where you’ll have to use your ears and a bit of lateral thinking to get the most out of it, while also having a lot of powerful features and connectivity that you don’t get from an actual old school sampler. I tried hard to convince myself that I don’t need another sampler, but when you add portability to all that it was impossible to ignore.

My M8 can beat up your P-6

In my opinion, the Smpltrek is way more powerful (and proportionally more expensive) but less cute,. Roland knows what they’re doing in terms of marketing, sometimes we fall in love with machines (thus putting in the effort to learn their convoluted ways, downplaying their limitations, even seeing them as advantages, etc) and sometimes not. I think there is something very visceral in how musicians approach gear, it’s the same with people.

Just a few weeks ago people went crazy for a ‘medieval sampler’ so… Specs are only part of the story.
