Omg. RIP
What the fâŚ
RIP. One of the innovators. Huge loss.
Will always remember his contributions to the world, every time a midi cable is handled.
raising a glass. ok a can. ouch, this one hurts ;-(
Oh no. Hero.
Even if his synths werenât absolutely amazing, Dave Smith created MIDI and presets on a synth. Electronic music wouldnât have been where it is without his contributions. This is a rough year for synth legends. Klaus Schulze, Vangelis, Andy Fletcher, and now Dave. RIP Dave.
So sad! RIP Legend!
RIP Dave. Thanks for the all the great tools and tech.
Terrible news. RIP.
I wish Dave had more time to enjoy life. He did amazing things for music, for us. Just after making a deal with Novation that should take a huge load off his shoulders he moves on to whatever is next.
We got the best from Dave, but what about Dave himself? I donât really believe in anything beyond what we see here, but I hope Iâm wrong and Dave is jamming with all of humanityâs great musicians of the past.
Very sad news
RIP Dave. Thank you for everything you gave to the world.
Fuck, fuck, fuck!
I got to write an intro to an interview we did with him at Reverb years ago and said something like: When he wanted to play chords on his minimoog, he could either invent a protocol for wiring instruments together or create a polyphonic synth. He did both.
Such an inspiration. Iâll always remember how downright gleeful he was in his corny videos demoing some new feature or firmware. He really loved what he did and we get to feel that love using his creations.
RIP.
The whole world uses midi. Thats one amazing legacy.
Damn. 72 is too fkn young and Dave was looking good man. Sad news.
I swear somedays I feel like Iâm living in one of the sh*ttiest strands of the multiverse.
I think what makes it even sadder is that his impact in music is enormous, but most people out there doesnât even know who he is.
MIDI was quite an accomplishment. So was polyphony with memory recall. RIP
This is really sad news
Sometimes itâs better to be loved by people who understand and care about what you do than a bunch of randos.
