Anyone know of a small simple desktop device that does what the bored brain optx does, but not for eurorack signals. I’m imagining a minimal push 3 setup with some hardware synths and stereo effects loops.
I just want to salute all you early adopters for spending up to 2k on rolling with the punches/bugs and paving the way for all us late bloomers having a smoother experience later on. Thank you for your service.
The audio interface discussion here might be a good place to see what others have come up with:
IMO probably the most appropriate device in terms of size and I/O capabilities would be the MOTU 8A but you’ll have to find one used or wait until MOTU’s chip shortage ends if you want to get one.
I’m happy to use my Behringer ADA8200 which I’ve had for many years in the meantime.
At least all reports in regards the knobs above the screen have been of consistent feel so far. I really couldnt believe how much they varied on the Push 2, they are lucky that unforgivable issue didnt put me off from ever buying hardware again from them.
Software related – Behavior of Modal Windows/Dialogs:
One thing that I’d like to see Ableton improve is the behavior of modal dialogs / windows. For example, if I’m in the Hot Swap mode, and then bring up the Scale chooser, movement or selection with the jog wheel continues to change presets in the background rather than focusing on the Scale dialog which is foremost on the screen. This causes confusion and inadvertant changes. There are several other scenarios where I’ve experienced this but I can’t recall the specific context.
No problem with the Push output via ADAT, except that so far I didnt find out whether there is a way to direct master output to ADAT, so I just did it per track for now.
I havent had great joy so far with ADAT into Push using that MOTU, I get nasty pops at regular timing intervals.
You need to go the master track, which is the - button under the browser / change button (looks like a refresh icon), then the mixer button |i|i, input & output, then you can set your master out ports. Took me ages to find that after deafening myself with max volume Turn it down before you test it. I’m using an 8200, its great, no pops or clicks, really solid so far.
Same here, the hardwares perfect, the software needs some love for sure, its great, dont get me wrong, i love the thing, it does need a little polish though.
It does work as an audio interface for ipad, but its not a very good use of the Push. Because you can only use it as an audio interface in controller mode, and the rest of the Push will just sit around telling you to run Ableton Live when its in that mode.
Actually having played around with it a bit more you do get midi from the pads in this mode, but no lights on the pads and nothing useful on the Pushes screen.
So not quite as useless as I was suggesting. I’ll have to spend more time with it to analyse the details of the MIDI coming out of it in this mode, it does seem like its still MPE from the pads. It looks like you get MIDI from the ribbon and encoders too, but those send note on when you touch them so practical use a bit tricky.
@all actual users: don’t forget to turn on “Send stats and reports” under Setup->Software (left upper corner) so that Ableton can “spy” on all crahses/bugs to have a grip on what’s broken/buggy
