Polyend Tracker

Why don’t you contact Polyend and ask? They are pretty approachable.

Another take on the Tracker…
Had time to finish some demos in songmode today.
Eq per track would be a great addition for the fx. Or a second filter like on the DT now. Would make mixing so much easier.

My MK2 had three stuck keys that resolved within about two minutes of use. They were rubbing against the metal top. No big deal.

The MK3 arrow key has a different issue.
The mechanics of the button are dysfunctional. Whether reflective of overall product quality or not, having two Trackers with issues sours me on a device I’d rather not be soured on.

Has anyone imported or opened up any MOD files on the Tracker? I tried to but it didn’t work. The only thing it would open was an IT file. I’m just wondering if anyone knows a little bit more about it. I think it would be cool to open up some of these old MOD files and see how people put songs together.

I did download a bunch of NES files so now I have a ton of games on there. Some work, some don’t. For example, Donkey Kong works but Zelda does not. Pacman works but Super Mario Bros 3 does not. Stuff like that.

i imported some pro tracker files i had laying around, which were quite basic imo but they still did not import properly; messed up sample loop points, steps placed where they shouldn’t be, FX translation did not seem to match up well at all and the projects were all clipped to hell. that being said it’s still quite useful for ripping samples from those projects and arranging something new.

NES emulation seems to be tailored for very simple/early NES games? SMB3 is one of the later NES titles and seems to push the most out of the console. i have mega man 6 on mine and it runs kinda choppy, but other titles you mentioned like DK work just fine

i swear when they fix the individual sample EQ this machine is going to sound sooo much better. trying to be patient :grimacing:

Yeah I tried a few Pro Tracker ones and they worked ok, some other formats that I tried did not.

I was not familiar with the random ones I downloaded so they might have been subject to the issues @mangofresa describes, although nothing sounded markedly obvious off to me.

I guess compatibility will be limited to common parameters, so some MOD files which have different fx won’t translate to the PT. I don’t think Octamed files are compatible, although all mine are long since gone anyway.

I believe that games which won’t work are the ones which have certain kinds of saves states and additional hardware in the carts.

I think some of the homebrew music making NES apps work though, if chiptune is your thing.

This is correct.
Tracker seems to be using a build of Nofrendo for nes emulation, so unfortunately there is a broad swath of roms that are not immediately compatible.

Homebrew roms seem to work with a much higher success rate, which is exciting because we live in a time where there are a lot of quality independent game releases and hundreds of guides/tutorials to get started with 6502 assembly and build your own nes game…
With NesMaker you don’t even necessarily need to understand assembly.

Some gems that are confirmed working on tracker…

Chippy2 (a straightforward chiptune tracker)
CajoNES and CajoNES+ (less straightforward chiptune trackers)
Little Nemo (classic)
Kung fu Mario (so fun)
Live unrom (weird noise maker based on the 2A03 sound chip)
The legends of owlia (maybe the best game I’ve played on nes)

If anyone wants the files for these without digging into some hidden internet corners, hit me up.

I have a MK3 I suppose (metal top, rounded buttons, soft plastic casing) and I can power over USB-C (even powers on connected C to C directly to an iPad Pro and has full MIDI access), and I do get a hardware pop/click when powering on and off. It’s a little concerning, not gonna lie, even if it’s intended.

Man, I’m so glad there’s finally some tracker software available on Tracker!

So, I bought the Tracker a couple days ago, and I’m feeling conflicted about whether I want to keep it or not.

I’m really concerned about build quality.

  • I have the new version with the plastic underside, and even though I keep my hands nice and clean, the bottom of the device is still a greasy mess after a few hours of use
  • The jog wheel feels wobbly at certain angles, which makes me concerned for the connection underneath
  • The screen is a bare LCD with no protection, like a TV screen. I feel like it’s one bump away from ruining it. It’s also recessed so you can’t really put a screen protector on it
  • There’s a loud pop/crack sound when I start the device or shut it down. Polyend says this is normal to protect the headphone output, but, it worries me, and I’ve never had other music or electronics gear have to do this

Essentially, this is a $600 device that has some glaring issues that even the most cheap electronics in other realms have solved for a decade at least.

Mine is on order but I’m beginning to get cold feet in regards to the construction quality, specifically the data wheel from the reports I’ve read.

The designers definitely fucked that up, even the manual warns the user about it.
