Polyend Tracker

  1. Why are you touching the bottom in normal use?

  2. I was concerned about this too and actually had a broken one on my first unit. The second one was good tho. A bit of wobble is natural according to Polyend’s FAQs.

  3. You could get a deck saver for it, otherwise be careful. Tbh breaking the screen never occurred to me. But then I’m always careful around my gear.

  4. It’s normal for Tracker and it’s certainly no reason to return it imo.

All up to you, of course. If you personally don’t get on with it, return it and move on.

i use it from time to time, i use the delay pretty much in every single thing i do with the tracker and i find that when it has ping pong enabled and you use the space thingy it starts sounding odd, almost like if phase issues are beginning to pop up? that’s why i usually stay away from it. i really wish they’d move that as an indivudal FX.

I think with the encoder as long as you don’t press on the edge when turning it should be fine, they are eventually going to wear out (rated for 100000 rotations) https://www.mouser.co.uk/ProductDetail/Bourns/PEC16-4215F-N0024?qs=7YHpgRs8DgzUqP7tcGD%2B1g==

But they are pretty simple to replace if they do break.

Funny. I thought it feels pretty premium overall.
But I‘m not technically skilled

I have a soldering kit so a replacement wouldn’t be an issue, I guess I will have to be a bit more mindful when touching that dial

Anyway, definitely looking forward to it, miss my protracker days and looking forward to knocking out some arcon2 madness out of it.

Anybody here with any experience importing old Amiga mods (sound tracker / protracker)?

Just curious to know if the tracker cmd’s are working or broken when imported?

One of the main reasons I got it was to be able to use it portably, so, I touch the bottom of it when I carry it around my apartment.

And I mean, for $600 I should be confident touching all exterior parts of the device…

Ah gotcha! I thought you were holding it up with one hand to play it with the other haha.

booted up the OT together w the tracker after some months of focusing on the tracker only and wow, this is such a fun pair. mangling some tracker patterns with the flex machines can bring lots of depth to simple stuff. it also made me realize how much i missed the octa filter hehe, it really is a completely different beast to the one on the tracker.

@darenager can confirm the wonky sync, i was able to fix it by enabling delay compensate on the OT and setting the clock sync delay in the tracker to -11.0. though if you stop transport on the tracker and resume it, it will be very hit or miss in keeping up with the octa

Same here, no complaints about build quality.

Question, how would you go about warming up the synthesis you hear in this video… by warmth I am not talking about distortion or white noise, I’m talking about organic, malleable , buttery, syrupy warmth… I wish so badly that the medusa sounded like the original Erebus and if it did I think it would have made a big difference in this clip so anyways do you guys have any ideas?

Nice track! Perhaps you’re overthinking this. Sounds pretty damn “warm” to me 🤷

BTW I got an email recently that nanoloop fm is back in stock and a big firmware update with new waveforms, resonant filters, and song mode is coming up.

oh this isn’t me, but I agree it’s a nice track, but it sounds a bit harsher than you might have thought especially for a chill track. It’s definitely not the track it’s the harshness of the medusa, I’m always looking for a better way to warm up and curve those edges on it… I would have posted it in the medusa thread but Isobutane is always great on the polyend tracker and this thread has some great problem solvers that post in it.

btw Ricky is back on it

I’m still loving this thing. Getting a song per day out of it. I’m sorry to hear about people being disappointed in the newer version and if it wouldn’t have clicked with me like it did, I might feel the same way but, even if I ended up with a mkIII, I think I would still love it. As far as the jog wheel is concerned, I can see how it could break or get wonky but I’m really careful with my gear. Even when I’m spinning it fast, I’m being really light with it. Here’s my issue now; I’m starting to get a little TOO weird and experimental with it. I’m mashing up samples that should not go together (including my own) and I need to go back to what works for me. But it’s just too much fun. Adding DN or OT just gets crazy. So much potential. It’s a mystery why I’m so drawn to this instrument and all I can think of is maybe I should’ve been using trackers all along.

Amen, brother.

I felt kind of corny writing all that but whatevs. At my age, I’m not really worried about what people think. But I am gonna stop posting songs for a while. I figure it’s getting annoying maybe. Time for a break.

I think by design there is no way of getting rid of the wobble… since the encoder itself has a small shaft, the bigger the radius the knob is that you put on it the wobblier it’s gonna feel even if the fit is tight, can’t fight physics.

Never underestimate how many folks are catching motivation off of your shared work…. whether they say so, or even consciously acknowledge it.
Personally, I’ve gotten an extra jolt of motivation each time you’ve posted a tracker jam and I appreciate your contributions here…. I’m sure I’m not alone in that sentiment. Fwiw.
So…
In sheer defiance of the notion that sharing something that you’ve made and that you enjoy is an ‘annoying’ act, I present the most recent tracker thing that I’ve done. It’s also my submission for the Elektronaut hiphop beat battle happening a few threads away.
