thanks for the reply. I believe you misunderstood my inquiry. Your suggestion is for sending CC from the Tracker, which I understand.
Update:
nothing in between and nothing over, and it was extremely glitchy at best. not really holding on any one value.
so not optimal just yet. hopefully an update will allow for any length modulation from 1-128
steps within a pattern
cheers
Have any of you sold your Digitakt after you bought the tracker? I have both right now and canāt justify it forever. With a house, child and a full-time job, I just donāt have the time to learn both devices intensively. and I will never create complete songs, but rather see these devices as a fun hobby for a few hours a week. I think 99% of the things can be done with both devicesā¦
since I already have a digitone, a lot speaks for the digitakt. but i have to admit that i just work faster and more fun with the tracker. Load samples, Even slicing, fill the track (euclidean ā¦) is just so much fun and fast. on the other hand, the destructive sample management annoys me ⦠I want to assign parameters to the sample without destroying it (or wait 10sec to process)⦠at the moment I use the tracker as a kind of song mode for DT&DN, which I really like, but at the end of the day one of the two must go. Iād rather have a mono synth instead.
DN, Typhon, (DT / PT), (Db01 / minitaur).
BTW I would love to have an OT too, but I know that I donāt have enough time in life to learn it.
returned the Tracker, bought a New bass guitar, thinking about Drumsynthesis for the OP-Z, bought Analog 4, which is a great Elektron machine. lovely sounds and FX
I have an OT while iāve said the OT is my āforever instrumentā, iāve been tempted by MPC One because i originally used MPCs 1000 and Z8 back in the early aughts and i do like some of the workflow. however, the destructive sample edit workflow on the One (and the Tracker) really make me wonder if itās worth it just to get something that has the form factor and power options of the Tracker.
I had also flirted with the DT when it came out, but the OT song mode makes studio work a breeze. Iām kind of surprised on the durability of OT prices on Reverb, but i highly recommend it if you want Song Mode. it can be a pain to input, but once youāre ābouncingā 8 tracks to a DAW session, i can hit play and go make a cup of tea and come back just as the song is wrapping up.
This setup is essentially my own. DN + monosynth (in my case, either DB-01 or SE-02) + drums/samples + FX.
I am very happy with my Tracker. I find it inspiring and fun to use, mostly, and Iām on record on this forum (and othersā¦) as a bit of an apologist for its short comings!
However I admit to being enticed constantly by the Digitakt and other samplers, too. In fact, I took delivery yesterday of a Bluebox and was moved to order a Blackbox for myself (partly because I really liked the quality of the Bluebox, partly because of the recent firmware updates, partly @circuitghost s posts, and part curiosity). The fact is, the Tracker is my second āgrooveboxā ā the first was an OP-Z, which was fun and powerful at step sequencing but always felt and sounded like a toy to me. The Tracker is wonderful, but itās one of those things⦠I wonāt know I love it until I try some other devices out too. Or, thatās what I tell myself.
So in your case I might say, stick with the DT! If thatās what gives you a better vibe.
There is currently a thread over on llllll that has turned Tracker-critical where I expressed a sentiment that itās not necessarily fair to expect the Tracker to ākillā some other hardware in your setup in the same way itās not fair to expect a trumpet to replace a trombone for instance. At a glance they look like the fill the same spot but in practice each is quite different in the ensemble.
For me, I love my Digitone quite a lot. I hope I donāt have to buy a Digitakt, but I just might. And thatās not to say the Tracker isnāt amazing, itās just that I might not know yet what I actually want out of my gear.
Best of luck in your journey, hope itās not too expensive haha.
At any rate, welcome to the Blackbox fam
Got my Tracker a few weeks ago and Iām really, really happy with it. I feel it was the unexpected missing piece to the puzzle for me.
I assembled a quick setup of Tracker, OT and my Organelle M on my desk and thought about how so many of the functions that one of those units does could also be handled by the other, but having all three of them gives me the freedom to really draw out the strengths of each unit. I wouldnāt have been able to really understand that before, as I also value the power of limitation, and have always chosen machines that are multifunctional so I could really get creative with just one at a time. But wow, now I get it. What an amazing combination these machines are!
It means the world to me to be able to liberate my Octatrack for just one or two uses per setup, after a long time making music completely within that machine, managing layer upon layer and losing the feeling of physicality in the process. One of my favorite ways to use the OT is to load long samples in and twist and pull them around using scenes - as a DJ it means a lot to me to be able to use that crossfader for a physical, ungridded unquantized push-and-pull feeling. Since the Tracker has probability, which for me has always been the defining feature of my workflow (OT was my first electronic instrument), I feel so good using the Tracker for my percussive and plucky melodic sequencing now, just like you also described earlier @Vacanthouses. OT finally has a teammate!
Tracker can integrate easily with my DAW, unlike OT. Its sampling is more fun for me, what with the radio built in. I hope they build out its granular engine as well (more grains please?), as thatās my favorite form of synthesis, but thereās no way Iād ever shell out for one of those clunky Tasty Chips units when I have a whole ass computer, and Quanta + Iris 2 are so deep.
As I also sing, having a mic input is huge for me. Lovely lovely addition.
I have finally found a perfect companion for my OT - liberating me to use the OT for my favorite of its purposes while another unit takes on other layers of the composition and performance.
Tracker is a lovely, lovely machine.
I sold my DT after getting a Tracker. Although the Tracker is more limited in some ways I just found it way more fun and fast.
I donāt know if this is a good file destruction remedy for you, but Iāve been copying samples into one or more instrument slots before making any changes. I got this useful idea from one of the recent @Stazma tutorials.
[george takei voice] OH MY!
I had the Model:Samples before I got the Tracker. So here are some Thoughts:
On the Elektron Boxes, the P-Lock Feature is simply amazing! It is sooo fast to change many Parameters for just one step.
I also find the tactile step sequencer way better than the screen driven one on the Tracker.
You have also more Sample Time on the Elektron Boxes!
What I like about the Tracker:
Conclusion: BOTH Companies / Products are just amazing!
I Uploaded another Tracker Beat on Youtube:
have you managed to get pattern changes working with the OT? Are you using Tracker or OT as master?
Iām liking the tracker, but the effect algorithms could really be updated. The chorus is static with no modulation; the delay doesnāt have fine tune settings, the feedback max setting isnāt high enough, and the feedback section could really use a filter.
The reverb and overdrive are pretty nice though. I donāt mind destructive effects. Itās very useful to commit and move on. Audacity has some amazing sounding effects. The phaser is great. I would love to see updated destructive effects.
Shouldnāt be a big deal to swap out the code.
Ah, in my case with the Tracker Iām using OT for unquantized/unclocked tonal sounds, so Iām doing everything manually and unsynced.
Hi all, when I record the audio in, I can play the pattern simultaneously, but I dontā hear anything. am I doing something wrong ? thanks !
Someone crafted me a cover with 3D printing, that what I needed with the tracker
Weāre many here, feel free to join if you want to dig deeper into the PT rabbit hole:
Thanks, just joined. It seems quite active indeed.
Yes, I remember during the beta we were like max 5 for servals weeks ^^
Itās a lot of fun to be all gathered there around the same interest.
Hi all! Had tons of fun building this session out at work last weekend. Absolutely digging the Tracker workflow, sequencing eurorack & sequencing the Digitone along with internal sounds:
