Polyend Mess

I believe that in the Wonic State video, the fella at a Polyend that was explaining the device said that it is possible if I understood him correctly, but that it only works for the first one hundred and some presets rather than all 1000 of them. Or something to that effect.

Edit: I’m hopeful that this unit will offer some way to trigger the sequence with a threshold of some sort…some way that the unit can listen for incoming audio and when the threshold is breached then the sequence would kick off either continuously or as a one-shot kind of thing.

Does anyone know the characteristics of the display?
Seems to me like a colored OLED, but it would be nice to know the size and the resolution as well.

How on earth is the screen resolution relevant?

You have no idea why the question is being asked, seems like a valid question to me…

As the owner of an original Adrenalinn, it will be hard not to buy this. A bit expensive though.

Has Polyend released any sort of statement on how they will avoid the issues that they have had in the past with the Mess? It would really help their credibility if we can get info on whether the device actually can compute the tasks advertised and if the price will remain stable. I believe this is important for anyone interested in the Mess since previous products have had severe teehting issues.

I doubt they are going to do that as it’s a bit like saying “Can I just draw attention to the fact that I’m not a murderer”

I know the Tracker was pretty janky when it first released, but my understanding is the Tracker+, Tracker Mini and Play+ have all been fairly solid.

Certainly I haven’t had any problems at all with my Mini.

Well, that’s in the eye of the beholder, so to speak. They got a ton of criticism over time and because of the volume it’s hard to follow it like a rational back and forth and I’m asking because I hope they have improved. I’d expect that they have responded to the criticism and present a path forward that involves some sort of improvement. If that’s not the case that is also important to know.

I expect the biggest clue will be the experiences of people with the “Step” as it looks like it might be the same hardware platform as the Mess.

I love the look of the screen and am looking for one for my home-project. Knowing the details of the screen would have made it easier to find out which one is used here

And I made only a handful of patches that I used exclusively. I sold mine recently, it was a bit much for my setup of other machines that are also all a bit much. Mess seems like something I might get better use out of (if I were in the market for an FX unit).

I’m not a guitarist though, and the stomp buttons of pedals are off putting as a desktop maker. Not a deal breaker, they just don’t feel great to slap with my hands.

In that case, from its appearance I’d wager it’s modern OLED. Just guessing but it looks about the size of a camera screen or thermostat or something. I think they’re pretty much all high res these days, are they not? Seems like it’s capturing the details of the typeface anyway.

Consider me enlightened; I assumed you were talking about the implications viz. the product under discussion.

I don’t want to rain on the parade for the MESS but want to mention that the Synthstrom Deluge has amazing automation options that can be applied to all of their FX. You can easily run your guitar into it. This can be highly effective as a weird guitar pedal automation in your home studio.

The newest community firmware is going to add Dimension C effects and a few others. It already has muteable reverb and all kinds of filters. It can also rhythmically repitch incoming audio and treat incoming audio with LFOs

Here is Red Means Recording messing with automation in an older iteration of the community firmware

The good thing about mess is it’s way easier to understand than the deluge :stuck_out_tongue:

I think that’s the thing.

You could do what the Mess does with various other tools, but this looks like something that would be simple and fun to make patterns with rather than half an hour of programming on a Zoia, or similar.
