Polyend Mess

MESS combines a powerful multi-track step sequencer with effects brimming with Polyend character – from classic modulation, delay or reverb to experimental effects never before seen in pedal form. With four fully customizable effect tracks, craft ambient soundcapes, intricate glitch sequences or even a familiar four effect chain – all moving in sync.

This one looks fun.

A bit too on the nose for Polyend to name this product MESS.

I’m assuming they have a new hardware platform … their drum machine came out a short while ago and now this. That was also 4 track with step sequencer.

This seems fine though might lack some of the interface feedback we’re used to with ‘parameter locks’ on steps. … eg holding a step and seeing with parameters are altered on that step …though it’s got less buttons / encoders and ways to show feedback ( ie it’s also cheaper )

Perhaps it might influence elektron to do something similar on the digitakt 2/digitone2 style of box.
Maybe it’s could be the heat 4 .

The 4-letter convention is promising: A_SE, SH_T, F_CK, etc.

On topic - looks like a lot of fun, this one! I never even considered PRESS or STEP, but this could be useful for what I do. Looking forward to more in-depth videos to see exactly how it works.

Maybe this will be a motivation for an update to syntakt’s FX sequencer.

Like I said with the last one - at some point you have to define whether the interface is made for the table or floor. If it’s on the table, you are going to be working with your hands so as a guitarist I am not going to do this:

If it’s on the floor, my feet are not going to twist knobs or select the smaller pads. My experience with these types of pedals is always disappointment not in features, but from the fact that I have to constantly reposition the device and connections to it unless I restrict myself to using it in a static, ready-to-go configuration like any other footswitch. And if I am using static configurations, why the hell would I be spending this amount of money to limit myself.

When I had a Monomachine I used it a lot for sequenced fx processing of external sounds. ( I’m pretty sure k did , it’s been a long time ) … more so than doing any sid chip / synth work.

If it stores presets, then that picture doesn’t mean as much in practical use.

Empress Effects Zoia is a popular pedal with lots of parameters and customization… if you want it.

In practical usage, there’s a creative time to build custom presets and then there’s a time to just play, record or perform. Stomp switches and preset recall work great there.

I only say this as a user of Chase Bliss pedals. Lots of parameters including dip switches that are not friendly on the fly, but they don’t have to be when you can store presets to recall later (and might require an extra purchase to recall more than 3 on the regular sized pedals).

Aren’t Polyend in Europe? When I go to the pre order price I can’t seem to change it from dollars. Do they ship from America?

No I definitely get it - but I am commenting on on-board function displayed here and imagining my use frustrations straight out of the box. This has 4 FX but one on/off foot switch. I am going to assume you can MIDI map another footswitch controller here where you could gain toggles for each individual FX track.

This pedal is more geared for synths the way I see it, and I would just rather it leaned a bit harder one way or the other, or at least had more control options on the unit itself. I don’t think it’s a bad product because it’s just been announced. It has an attractive price point, but I think the H90 is a better example for control in mixed tabletop/floor scenarios. This pedal is more like what AH+FX should have been - taking the sequencer from Syntakt FX block which is a good idea for such a pedal.

They’re Polish, but I’ve no idea if they ship from Poland or not.
Have you set your address (which includes country) in the user account?

I have products registered with them but I’ll check details

Cheers

The idea of the MESS is very much up my alley, the closest in hardware that we’ve gotten to Infiltrator so far. Looking forward to giving this one a spin.

I think you are absolutely right… geared more toward desktop synth heads who use guitar pedals over outboard gear.

I would love to try one. I’m very curious to see how it holds up.

And the moon is the closest astronauts have got to exploring the edge of the universe!

Sorry, couldn’t resist

I’m sure this will be loved by many!

Also have to agree with this. I was already quite skeptical of them but after my experience with the Polyend Synth I’m not touching anything Polyend ever again.

This does look cool tho. But that’s what I thought about all the previous stuff I’ve bought from them as well…

Hah! I am excited to see this thing put to good use in full songs, especially with drums.

Definitely want…

Although it has similarity to ZOIA / BEEBO type thing… However my fractal vp4 and fm9 can also do sequencings, lfo’s, adsr’s and other modifiers to most parameters on any effect/amp/cab… However this thing looks super fun and like it can do more of that type of thing!
