Exactly. Seems to sit in a nice middle-ground between that deeper programming of the Zoia and the sort of obfuscated not-that-much-control that frustrates me about the Microcosm
Agreed.
Back when I had a poly beebo, I made a few patches using the built in step sequencer. All kinds of crazy things are possible with it, but it’s rather cumbersome to experiment with it due to the clunky UI. And it did turn out rather messy sometimes, so I don’t think I’ve used those patches on any finished songs.
If I didn’t have have an OP-XY, which can send any input signal to its sequenceable FX and tape tracks, I’d probably be really psyched for the polyend mess. Seems like a lot of fun to play around with.
I got the Mess because of the XY. Being able to send out and back in is interesting.
Yeah, you’re probably gonna have lots of fun with them together. I just prefer to keep the amount of stuff I use as small as possible. I’m sure the mess includes many FX that can’t be achieved on the OP-XY, but I’m still years away from getting bored with what the OP-XY can do.
The modern internet has turned me into such a cynic because man this felt like a chat GPT article.
Yeah, from the videos, it looks like you could effectively recreate many of the Microcosm algorithms with diligent programming. I’m sure some enterprising soul will do exactly that and sell the patches (probably call the patch bank “MESS-cosm” or something). I heard plenty of CB Mood sounds in the demos as well.
It also looks like there will be a lot of scrolling to find the algorithm you want. This was what killed me about the MC707. You could setup crazy FX chains, but finding and dialing them in was a nightmare.
All that said, it looks like a super powerful platform where you could build damn near any effect you’d want. I’m keeping my eye on it.

Lol probably was.
This is very intriguing. It’s possibly the closest piece of hardware I’ve seen that does something similar to the Glitch2 VST did.
I could have lots of fun with the Mess and a Timetosser… or using this via sends/returns in a mixer.
But I just wish it wasn’t more expensive than my OG Polyend Play.
Sadly it is all going up.
Seems like a really useful tool in combination with the Digitakt 2 and Digitone 2; I just find the Microcosm to be great at 1 thing but really bad at the reverb side of it… Polyend Mess seems to hit the sweetspot. Can’t wait to hear in a digitakt setup…
I like to add glitch and repeats whenever I feel like it by a push of a button and just add loads of reverb at times… this seems to give me the realtime controls, options and quality…
They just show a little bit of such a combination at the very end of this video:
Curious about this thing’s release. Their website says it’ll start shipping on June 30 so just curious if anyone’s heard a peep about it yet?
They just posted an update on their instagram. Shipping starts this coming monday in the order they were received.
Rad! Thank you for the info!
Yeah, I want to see these in the wild. I’m very curious how the bread and butter effects stand on their own.
The chains that sound good kinda sound samey to me. There’s only so much skittery granular delay and reverb I need in my life. The real question is whether the extra degree of control of programming the granular sequence opens up novel possibilities that are worth exploring, or is granular in general so chaotic that it kinda doesn’t matter
Fully agree! I preordered specifically to use the sequencer with some very basic (hopefully good) effects with rhythmic wet/dry maxing. The glitching is very low on my personal interest list.
I’m thinking of using it with the Cre8audio Assembler, via the Assembler’s sends/returns so I can assign different devices to it at different times.
Sometimes, it will be the Digitakt II… but at other times, maybe it will be the Polyend Play, or the Akai MPC, or…
I have a beast of a mixer in the form of an old Behringer… so the Cre8audio Assembler is going to be a godsend!!
And I cannot wait to assign the Polyend Mess to one of its sends/returns… and start mangling!!
Wishlist… expand the sequencer to 64 steps!
Cool, will look at more of it in the wild.
It reminds me of the Infiltrator 2 plugin by Devious Machines, but in a pedal and with less fx tracks.
Anyway it look really interesting!
