Oxi One Hardware Sequencer

I think there have been other devices that do that. Akai MPD 218 maybe ?

EDIT: ah, sorry, that would be limiting the current draw for running in that case, not current draw for charging.

Yes, OP-1 lets you disable USB charging.

We discussed the issue of certain iPads refusing to work with the Oxi One via USB due to power consumption a couple of weeks ago on here. Someone had the amazing idea of cutting the power line out of a USB-C cable, which will stop the iPad from trying to send power. I haven’t tried it yet but it’s the only solution I can think of that actually works

What iPad were you using again? USB-C or lightening? that is the conversation I was referring to above.

I can confirm this works great with the Akai force. Plug and play over USB.

I am in love with this thing.

I have changed my mind on the keyboard modes. They work. I wasn’t quite aware how simple it is to switch to preview mode and just drop it into record to play in a chord sequence on a chord track, then lay a bass line over it.

My favorite part is the way I can go through all of the various intonations and inversions from preview. I am coming up with progressions I’d never find on my own.

Right now I’m syncing it to the OT, sequencing korg module on iOS and capturing the loops, and it is so much fun. Ironically, 4 sequencers correspond to 4 parts. I can use the same chord sequence to capture straight chords on one part, use the same track with the arp on to capture it into a different part.

So many possibilities. Need to dig into harmonize in a bit, it’s a major reason I purchased the oxi.

It’s not, but now with the autoclock opotion this may not be really necessary.
Apart from that, only preview, follow and recording settings are left to be saved.
It can be done globally (like settings) or per project. If anyone is interested enough, we can open a post in the forum to gather opinions.

I’ve got the dumbest question ever. I use the End button for 3/4 time signature in 16 step tracks, but how do I do it with longer sequences?

Not dumb. You can’t have ¾ per page at the moment, meaning a 2 bar ¾ sequence would be a 24 step sequence, not really intuitive since the 2nd bar would be split between two pages.

Thanks, now I get it. And if a long note is right there between two pages, I should use tie, right?
Any plans to implement 3/4 and other signatures per page?

Oh yeah, so it’s a USB-C as I have the CCK going into the iPad Pro 2016. Need to buy a cheap USB-C cable and chop the power line out of it.

Glad you’re liking it! That’s what turned my head as well, playing the keyboard live with the preview on. Genius, really.

Having such funs with Oxi One!
It’s rekindling my love of making music, while making performing intuitive and fun.
Been fantasizing about a sequencer like this ever since i found out about GenoQs Octopus, but this goes way beyond those dreams

This would be awesome to have overview of time signatures diferrent from 4/4! I would like for it to be per page, so we can have elegant view of composite time signatures as well.

Anyway, kudos to the Oxi team, or man
This thing rocks!

Got an idea for a Note perform mode

8x8 scale mode with degrees of the scale laid out lengthwise root to root. Then 8x8 next to it of the chords of the scale, root to root. The chords with the ability to select a chord from the chord list that corresponds to its scale note.

Similar to the Theoryboard.

Would be a great way to perform.

Oh this sounds interesting. how do you turn on the preview mode?
i like jamming with the keyboard mode but struggling to find the best way to then record what I play on keyboard mode…

EDIT: RTFM: shift + pressing the key in sequencer mode right?

what I struggle with sometimes is that when playing in keyboard mode, and then switching to sequencer mode to draw in/record the sequence, the keys do not correspond with each other if you understand what I mean (pressing the same key in keyboard mode and then in sequencer mode is not the same note / chord). Curious to hear more about your workflow: do you play/record the sequence in ‘live’? or manually?

Shift + Preview will turn on the preview mode so every key/step will sound when pressed.

I usually record chords in live from keyboard mode, but it’s fun as well to enter steps into the sequencer and define the chord afterwards. Or a mixture of both.

Thanks. many options indeed. gonna take some time to really get to know the device.
Very cool though, think this one is going to make my Torso-T1 collect dust…

thats fixed in a newer firmware (beta-stage currently)

I’m a bit confused? So in the new beta, if you select a different chord in preview with the modifiers on the right, the currently selected modifiers will be what’s inserted in the chord sequencer?

Yes exactly. And why are you confused?

Good question. Hadn’t started my coffee yet, seems I was just still in a fog.
